Parent topic: Did G. Lucas ever intend to portray the Jedi as a flawed institution in the prequels? Or was it added later in the EU?

I still don’t really buy the idea that Qui-Gon would have saved Anakin. I know that was Lucas’ intent, but I don’t buy into it.
