i totally agree with you...
he just needs some bullshit excuse to back up why he's making all these changes...

if he originally wanted the Sarlac monster to have some sort of mouth attached to it he would have made some sort of attempt to do it....
but is that documented anywhere...
no... and you know why?

cuz he never intended the damn thing like that!
end of story...

It wasn't Darth Vader who picked up the Emporer and threw him down the Death Star's chasm. It also wasn't Darth Vader who asked Luke to, "Take this mask off, so that I can look on you with my own eyes.". It was Anakin Skywalker. He died as Sebastian Shaw and that is how his ghost should have remained (except not all mangled). Lucas has really lost it.

I know the scene was short, but did it look to you as if Yoda had labored breathing or was coughing, struggling to stand in the final ghost shots? I wondered, because when he died, by your definition his physical ailments should have transcended into the spiritual self.

I'll have to check the scene again. If he was struggling, he shouldn't have been since the other ghosts didn't have any ailments. I'm surprised Lucas didn't replace the Yoda ghost with CGI since I've heard by rumor that he is replacing the puppet in Episode I with CGI.

I did hear one rumor that was apparently untrue. I heard that Temuera Morrison's voice was going to be dubbed over all of the Stormtrooper's dialogue. None of the reviews mention that. Since I'm not buying the DVD's anyway, I think that would have been funny because there would have been more people pissed off and the DVD's would probably be returned to the store left and right.

It may just be me, but I've never pictured Star Wars to be all about Darth Vader. I can see it in Episodes I-III, but not IV-VI. That was definitely more of the story of Luke. Vader was a major player, but I wouldn't consider him the star.

I agree and disagree. On the surface it looks like the story of Luke Skywalker. But if you look at the films alittle deeper, you will see that everything that happens in the films are a result of Darth Vader, and thus Anakin Skywalker. Vader/Skywalker is the thread that ties everything together. So, like I said....I agree and disagree.

I know when the movies originally were released "from the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" was often used in promotion and in the novels to describe the trilogy.

and on another point, didn't we all secretly know that George would somehow come up with another way to fuck up the original trilogy in a way that would be as universally hated as when he made Greedo shoot first in the 97 editions? (I'm referring to the insertion of Hayden in ROTJ), come on we didn't seriously expect him to actually make the films better?

i think it was more less a story about Luke...
sure some can argue that it was originally about Vader and that Lucas just wanted to start with the latter part of the story but i just dont see it happening...

Lucas wanted to give us Lukes perspective on things...
we're contantly seeing things from looks point of view...
thats just what i think anyway...

plus i just dont believe anything that comes out of Lucas' mouth anymore

Actually, we are seeing everything from the Driods point of view. Thus, we are introduced to them first and they lead us to all the principles. Of course, when it comes to the Empire, it gets alittle fuzzy, but I think you get the gist.

This might be a change I am not sure whether this is a deliberate change by Lucas or just a result of the remastering but the double starset looks enhanced.

Yeah we should start a thread listing the things he left alone, it would probably save time.
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Goering.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Goebbels.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - Orwell.

Hi everyone!

Not sure if this is the right forum for this - apologies if it isn't, but typing this in a hurry at work ;-)

From several reviews I've read now of the Empire of Dreams documentary on the new Star Wars Trilogy DVD's, I've heard that all the original scenes (which are replaced on the actual DVD films) are in there, in anamorphic widescreen as well!

Surely these can be edited out, and placed into the cleaned up versions of the new DVD's? Has anyone tried this yet, or goign to try it? I only have DVD Shrink, which has very simple editing facilities, but I'll give this a go once my DVD set arrives on the post. Perhaps Lucas has (slyly) given us what we want, but in a very disjointed way?!!!

Cheers,

- John

Hardcore, you are absolutely right. Episodes IV-VI are told from the Droids point of view. However, they are about Luke. Since the prequals have come out, yes, the focus of the story has somewhat altered. It is now all about the fall from grace and redemption of Anakin. Luke now becomes a secondary player in what was once a story about him.

It appears some bad decisions were made concerning the audio. I have to thank a poster on DVD File's Forum, which is temporarily down, for this news. They provided a link to John William's Fan Network Forum here. The thread on that forum has several sound clips from both the Original and 2004 releases. The changes really stink in my opinion. Some sound effects and music are omitted here and there. They also provide a comparison that illustrates what the reviews have been saying about the varying audio quality in ANH.

Yep, it all sounds pretty stupid. Apparently, now Lucas has always intended to not have music during the beginning of the Death Star attack, and now his dream can become a reality...
Author

The music is there at the beginning of the Death Star attack. it is just drowned out by the noise of the X-wings.

Make sure to listen to all of the samples in the thread. Here are direct links to them with descriptions:

Drowned out music. The music isn't actually missing. However, it is drowned out by the sound effects.

Comparison of dialogue quality differences between Original and 2004 versions. This one clearly illustrates how the audio quality in the 2004 version is not consistent like it was in the Original Version.

Missing sound effect.
I liked that sound effect.

What were they thinking?

That little exchange reminds me of that Dirty Harry-esque cop show in The Simpsons.

Chief: "You're off the case MacGarnicle!"
MacGarnicle: "You're off YOUR case Chief!"
Chief: "... What does that mean, exactly?"
Homer (watching): "It means he gets RESULTS, you stupid chief!!"

By the way I also have trouble believing that Jimbo's not computer generated.
