Is the Robocop 4:3 DVD fully opened-up? Can anyone compare the 4:3 DVD to the Criterion DVD?

There is no Full Frame DVD of RoboCop, not Region 1 at least. The above images I believe are from a TV airing. The Criterion is the closest Open Matte RoboCop there is on DVD.

does anyone have fullscreen versions of the scream movies?

Myself I’m far more interested in open matte versions of movies instead of Pan and Scan bullshite. Interesting for alternatives, of course.

Well, why being so negative on the former poster then? The Criterion is more open matted, compared to any newer 1.85:1 dvd and BD release, due having a 1.66:1 frame, the way it originally was intended.

Wasn’t originally intended for 1.66:1 but maybe that’s for European markets. That, and the LD/DVD is quite old in terms of approval from the film-maker.
I have that DVD but wish Criterion ported over the PCM or whichever audio from the Laserdisc instead of making it lossy. Different aspect ratio but not currently on the rest of the releases. Which makes me wonder if anyone has taken any open-matte HD uncensored broadcast, make it 1.66:1 to make the weird Criterion LD/DVD aspect ratio which Verhoven has abandoned in favor of the newer scans (MGM Remastered BD, and the superior ARROW BD/4K compared to the former), and have a customized BD25 or whichever with all the Criterion bonus. Including the audio from the Criterion LD since it would the DTS-HD MA 2.0 from the ARROW BD or 4K. Y’know, similar to what fellow forum user alleycat has done with other Criterion LDs and made custom BDs. BUT, that’s for a different thread altogether.

Would be nice to see a more current, HD quality or even 35mm scan, of the open matte for The Princess Bride. Only release I know of which has it is the old MGM DVD. Could be wrong on that too.
Then there are the movies shot on Super35, and that’s a completely separate list. Most likely belongs in this thread but best be updated on Letterboxd.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is an interesting situation. Was shot with two separate cameras, maybe at the same time or one after the other, to have two separate aspect ratios. Interesting case since it’s not open matte or Pan and Scan, just a different ratio. Both are official too. Oklahoma did similar though both would be shot one after the other

A Todd-AO version was made for 70mm screenings and then a cinemascope version that played in wide release

I saw this Top Gun clip on YouTube the other day. While this doesn’t seem to be quite open matte, this is a much more open image than the Blu-Ray I have.

This doesn’t look like an upscale to me, does anybody have a clue what this might be from? Is there a full(er) frame preservation for Top Gun in HD?

Possibly the 3D blu-ray, or an HDTV version.
