Hello there!
My name’s Zac, born in 1987 and first exposed to Star Wars thanks to the Special Editions: I saw A New Hope in the theatre as a nine-year-old and was hooked. I’m pretty sure I watched the cartoons as a younger kid but ANH is my first actual memory of the saga.

I admit I came here chiefly to track down 4k77, Harmy’s etc but I see there’s a lot more to the community than just these projects. I’m excited to be here and to explore!

From a deceptively chilly Whanganui, New Zealand, MTFBWY.

I’m here to watch movies, watch people cut up movies, learn how to cut up movies, and probably never make use of that knowledge in cutting up my own movies, and will simply continue watching movies except I’ll know a little bit more about how they’re made.

I like Star Wars (obviously), older Star Trek, Transformers, and to a much more limited extent, Marvel comics. The Marvel movies are… fine.

Alright, that’s all of your time that I’ll be wasting today

Yup

Hi There, longtime Star Wars fan, interested in fan preservations of original theratrical versions, Star Wars and other films. Great to see all the hard work and effort that goes into undoing some of the horrible revisionism that goes on these days! Looking forward to learning more about the whole process and various projects people are working on. Cheers

Hi there, I’m a long term fan of the original three films, even going to the lengths of tracking down the de-specialised editions of them. Also enjoy the Alien franchise of films (although not the Alien v Predator spin offs!) and other bits of sci-fi.

Hoping to learn and enjoy.

Cheers!

Hello there!

I’m in love with Star Wars since 1977, when I was a little kid, but too young to watch the movie in the local cinema. So I got the german issue of the PANINI sticker collector album “Krieg der Sterne”.

The first movie to watch was TESB in 1980, can’t remember exactly how I felt that day, but I must be triggered by something, 'cos since then I had to watch every SW movie when it came out. Every time it was shown on TV and later the Special Editions on VCR. First I liked the new additions, but when I got the possibility to watch the unaltered versions again in 2006 I saw immediately that this was something much more cooler. Since then I hope 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm or even Disney would issue the Original Trilogy in an appropiate format/version.

In the 2010s I discovered the art of fanedits, and how I love what TMBTM has done with his Grindhouse edits!

Now I registered just to give my two cents to the process of getting a proper cut of the Obi Wan series, which is nearly a disaster throughout IMHO.

Hi!

I stumbled across this forum after reading about 35mm film scans and star wars. I love to preserve and collect concert footage from artists during the 60’s,70’s and 90’s. My goals are to help fund interesting film scans and find new friends to help me/collaborate with on my colorization & Preservation projects!

My pfp is a shot from one of my projects, Involving Jimi Hendrix.

//Thank you for you time!

Hello everybody,

Name’s Michi and I came here after watching the 4k77 and getting hooked on seeing the original versions of the Trilogy in UHD. I also know about Harmy’s versions but I still eagerly await the release of 4k80.

Howdy folks,
I wasn’t alive when the Original Trilogy was released, my first exposure to the films was watching them on basic cable as a child, then later on I purchased the Blu-Ray’s, then three different VHS sets. Now I’m here, seeking the originals, wanting to see what made these movies so special, want to see what they were originally like that made people love them and interact with the community that does.

I’ve watched 4K77, soon to watch 4K83, waiting on 4K80. I’ve watched Harmey’s Despecialized editions as well. I love Star Wars, I played the games when I was little, used to watch Episode 3 every weekend, I collect some memorabilia, Star Wars has always had a special place in my heart, and it’s why I’m here.

Just stumbled on this site. Old enough to have seen the premiers when they happened. Just last week a younger guy at work was excited that he had found the VHS trilogy, we pulled an old SVHS player out of storage and put them on a screen. Amazing what we accepted for image quality when that was the best we had.

Howdy! I mean… Hello there!

I remember back in the day when Harmy was working on his despecialized editions of the Original Trilogy and thinking that was so cool. It didn’t seem right that theatrical releases of the original films be made unavailable to fans who just wanted to see them.

I really support what y’all are doing and look forward to learning more. All the hard work is amazing.

May the Force Be With Y’all. 😃

Hello everybody, I completely missed this thread when I first signed up but I’m still very new so I figured I do it ASAP. I’m Rich, I’ve been a Star Wars fan most of my life and am super glad to have found this forum. I can’t quite remember how I found this place, but like many others here, I was doing research into the Original Trilogy edits and whatnot. (I’d known all about the Special Editions for years of course, I just recently stumbled upon this forum.) Star Wars has always been a fun adventure for me to escape into and I’ve been fascinated by it for years.

That’s all I got for now, and I’m looking forward to the discussions to be had here. MTFBWY

Move along, move along.

Hi! I’m Elijah Hechtman, and I’m always up for something rare. I see you guys are working on a Brave Little Toaster remaster thanks to a 35mm scan you found, and Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies 1984 restoration.

Hi OT crowd!

I simply wanted to pop in and generally say I love what I’ve seen from just the FAQ/Rules, with references like the Star Trek: The Kirkless Generation I didn’t know about!

Wondrous to see the other original trilogy (three seasons of Star Trek TOS) being treated just as wholesomely.

And there is much more to see and experience. Love to re-experience some content through the fan edits and exclusive preservation of content the coming time.

A huge thanks to all of you as well as the original creators of whom I think the (special) DVD/Blu-Rays boxes I own, while pretty cool to have, can be lacking in quality and missing content at times.

Hi everyone.

Love the very concept of this place, to preserve the art as originally released. The dedication to that goal is a sight to behold in this day and age of disposable content. Looking forward to interacting with you great folks and helping out if I am at all able.

For me, I grew up in the wake of the OT; the tail-end of ROTJ. Then of course the VHS tapes worn down to static from rewatching them as a kid. Could never afford the LDs in my teenage years unfortunately.

Hope all are having a great day 😃

Good afternoon folks!

I was born a few months before the original theatrical release of The Phantom Menace so when I first watched the Original Trilogy on VHS, George’s edits were just the way of the world I was born into. It wasn’t until the first time I saw the Hayden Christensen edit of Return of the Jedi I felt something was deeply, very wrong.

My quest for OT purity lead me to Harmy’s Despecialized Editions; in high school, I undertook a months-long personal project to learn about and execute what was required to get them on HD home media. Once I finally had those babies burned onto Blu-ray and gave copies to my friends for Christmas, I felt my mission was complete. My own personal copies, with the cover artwork printed out at my local library and the generic Blu-ray cases I bought off eBay and everything, were my most prized possessions for years. I still treasure them to this day.

In the years since, I’ve let go of my resentment for the prequel trilogy and now can simply appreciate those titles for what they are. I do however hold my same feelings about post-theatrical overwrites, so I love to see all the “Despecialized-like” (forgive my perspective) projects around here! (And, of course, I support any project that comes from the heart.)

Thank you for reading and m__ t__ F____ b_ w___ y__!!

Hello everyone!

Obligatory Star Wars memory here: Hiding my face during the Cantina scene where all the varied life-forms appeared.
Once past these “monsters”, my child self was free to continue watching the big screen and my family wouldn’t have to worry about having wasting any money on cinema tickets 😄

Optional controversial statement here: I’d have been happy if George Lucas had commissioned a computer composited Clay-Mation Jabba for Han Solo to walk around in the so-called “special” editions, at least the technology would have been in keeping with the rest of the production.

Random nitpick here: That square block of total darkness around that rotating Tie Fighter, though? (Once it’s been pointed out, you’ll never see it without wincing again). Someone on the cine film element clean-up floor obviously got a little cocky.

Stuff I’m working on: Merging multiple copies of Toei’s Yu-Gi-Oh VHS tapes via various Japanese video recorders for the purposes of obteining no-bounce, no-drop-out copies of the AV which can then be combined with soft-subs drafted from various internet group’s subtitles (credits to be included of course).
Hunting first edition rental copies of JP Pokemon VHS volumes one and two for the purposes of correctly capturing full-speed “paka-paka” effects for reference insertion into recently released (but still tampered with) HD footage. It’s not just Porygon thst gets edited out of the timeline, sparking skeleton Satoshi needs some love, too!
