Congratulations and great work, HAL. Pat yourself on the back, I’m sure the journey of editing – what, eleven movies? Can’t have been easy.

I’d love a link when you get the chance. Thanks for all your effort in turning this thing into something acceptable. I wish this is what had released in theaters in 2019. Maybe the course of history wouldn’t have been completely derailed.

If that were true, you would’ve saved the sarcasm. Besides, it would be much more accurate to actually get someone who knows the language to do it rather than let Google do it where it can’t accurately translate certain nuisances of the lines and whatnot.

Hi Hal, I would be glad to translate the lines into German! For context, it would be great, though, to know where all those lines appear in the movie.

Do you - or does anyone else - have at least a broad timestamp (or scene) direction to guide me to? 😃

Congrats Hal! With this and the TLJ fix uploaded, would you say that all of your current Prequel and Sequel uploads are in their “final” state for the foreseeable future?

Well, I could possibly update TFA if Nev’s Starlight V2 merits it. And I am not 100% sure yet that I won’t want to update my prequel edits to comport better with the Kenobi series and future things. (Who’d have guessed Anakin killing children that day would be a plot-critical thing in new live-action Star Wars?

My stance on revising fan edits.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think Kenobi necessitates an update of LoE. The kid-killing scene in RotS is so unintentionally comical that it might be better to, in the limited context of your edits, leave the idea that Vader killed child Jedi as a dark revelation that happens in Kenobi. After all, Kenobi does treat that scene as a dramatic revelation already, just for a character other than Vader.

Yeah, but it still gets that point across retroactively. I could put in the line, “Not even the younglings survived,” to introduce the term without security footage of Anakin personally slaughtering them taking over Obi-Wan and Padme’s motivations. We do see in LOE some very young bodies strewn about so there’s still the idea that Jedi of all ages were killed. The main thing I wanted to do for LOE is avoid having killing tiny kids be the first thing a semi-reluctant Vader goes to do. It still happens implicitly, but Anakin himself isn’t known to be directly involved because it overshadows his overall betrayal of the Jedi.

But yeah, not altogether called for, but I haven’t decided for certain. Also will depend on which Kenobi fan edit I end up adopting as my go-to out of the crop!

EDIT: I looked again at the relevant conversation in Ep5, and Kenobi does express his knowledge of Anakin killing the younglings.

If you do end up making those alternate versions of your edits, that could be the solve. You can have a version that is solely part of the Hal9000 saga and another that is compatible with the “wider Star Wars continuity”

Woo! Congratulations on completing your Rey Nobody edit, Hal! (And huge kudos to Spence as well.) “At last, the circle is now complete.”

Regarding the continuity issue, personally, I wouldn’t torture yourself over this stuff. Rise of Skywalker itself is basically a conglomeration of retcons held together by plot contrivances and whiz-bang pacing - Lucasfilm clearly isn’t concerned with making sure every single installment fits together perfectly. And besides, your edit doesn’t deny the baby slaughter; it just…neatly sidesteps it.

Congratulations on the release of the “Rey Nobody” version. I took a look at the scenes where Rey’s heritage (or lack of) had the most discussion. It’s very seamless. So much so that it’s a testament to how unnecessary the Palps revelation was. The new plotline about the twin opposing paths of Ben and Rey is a lot more compelling and mythic.

Thanks for the shout out, Hal (and for the sub, Octorox)! I know I’ve said it before but I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation and many thanks for being game to come on. Like Hal said, I think we touch on Star Wars-related topics that may be of interest to people in this community.
