Should Red Letter Media/Plinkett review the Special Editions?

I think their prequel reviews helped spread awareness of people’s complaints about the prequels and created demand for a de-prequelfied Episodes 7-9.

Mike, Jay, and Rich have found video subjects that are far more rewarding than treading that old ground. I’d much rather get a new Best of the Worst/Wheel of the Worst or a re:View about stuff they like/find funny instead of reaching for the same-ol’ anti-PT content that just doesn’t have the same bite anymore.

I think they addressed the Special Editions well enough in their prequel reviews. They criticized the added CGI visual clutter.

The RLM guys are burnt out on Star Wars, anyway. They can’t muster the energy to get worked up about it anymore.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

I’d rather watch Rich Evans trying to understand Meredith Monk’s Turtle Dreams video. Seriously, I’m glad they introduced me to Meredith Monk’s work.

Covering stuff like Surviving Edged Weapons, Creating Rem Lezar, Easy Kill, Roar, Born Into Mafia, New York Ninja, and Massaging the Elderly seems a lot more rewarding and fascinating.

I would like to see them review the Special Editions, their style and format would be just right for highlighting the many Special Edition changes. But it would be an massive effort to do this, given there are now 4 Special Edition cuts to work through and compare to the unaltered OT. And I can’t see them doing something like that again either.

But it would be cool to see something similar, even if done by someone else, in a format like the Plinkett PT reviews.

Has anyone already done a similar type of video for the Special Editions, darklordoftech?

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

Would that be with or without the kidnapped and tortured sex worker plots?

Yes.

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

I’d just be game to do a bait-and-switch. Instead of the Special Edition, why not have a whole re:View episode on Thankskilling? I think it would break Mike like the Jack Frost movie did.

I get more satisfaction with them criticising Kurtzman Star Trek than anything these days…

That kind of thing was pretty long time ago. They should do a proper discussion in their “re:View” series. Regular guests like Colin Cunningham are VFX artists and have the know-how to talk about stuff like that. Also some years ago they also had the director of People Vs George Lucas in an episode. If structured properly it might have some sort of impact. Then again they’d probably just prefer a drunken round table discussion of trash.

I kind of want an Episode 9 one to complete the ST set but Mike doesn’t care like that anymore. Those Plinkett reviews were a lot of work and everything has changed so much since then. In depth complaints about Star Wars in general aren’t the same anymore.
