Ok got a little bit of time to dive into Chapter 1 again for another version of those scenes. Here is the village lodging requests with a few changes, notably in slowing down some of the pacing you mentioned, as well as reorganizing/re-timing some of the conversation on the cart again.

And here is a new montage of the time at the village! I think this one fits a lot more as we don’t have the building of barricades and as much of the “preparing for battle” feeling. Now it’s more peaceful, showing Mando just walking around doing his thing, sharing his “religion” (weapons) with the people, and even hinting at a bit of a love triangle! Let me know if this feels better to you.
