Help: looking for... E.T. 20th Anniversary Edition in HD? (with info) — Page 5

Spielberg’s never done a commentary for any of his films. He’s notorious for it. The best would be the behind the scenes featurette on the DVD.

Just saw an Xfinity commercial that mentioned E.T. At one point it showed the shot of E.T. and Elliot crossing the moon on a TV and believe it or not it was the 20th anniversary version of the shot evident by Elliot’s flapping cape.

It’s mostly done. Just need to spot check it and actually render it. When I mux it, it will just be muxed to the lossy audio of the HDTV rip. Someone else can come in and mux it to the DTS.

People can then take a look at it. I’d appreciate it if at least one or two people familiar with the changes would make sure nothing is missed.

I could definitely review it and check if anything’s missing, I’ve seen both cuts millions of times being one of my favorite movies of all time I now it inside and out

Great, thanks. And other people can check it out and use the movie-censorship reference to double check my work. But it’s good to have someone who knows the film(s) well. For example, there was a shot of CG ET watching TV, from behind, that wasn’t included on that list. There could be more.

I’m just going to render the full BD25 size video, since I think there’s a good (but not 100%) chance that everything is fine and another render won’t be needed. It’ll just need to be remuxed with the correct audio and then should be ready to go. Should have time to upload it Sunday.

Since JP seems to be away for now, if anyone else who is familiar with the film would like to take a look, send me a PM. If you’re familiar with the SE changes, that’s great! If not, you can see if I missed anything here: http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=5229907 but that’s what I used as a guide, and it’s missing at least one thing.

If there are no errors, it should be the final video stream, but still needs to be muxed to a DTS track (it has lossy English audio included). Many of the SE shots look quite good. There’s a few that aren’t as impressive, but overall I think it looks decent.

I was just beginning work on this exact project using an upscaled rip from the 20th Anniversary DVD and the BluRay, when I stumbled across this thread. The screenshots posted here of the 720 HDrip already seem to be alot better than what I was going to work with. Can anyone point me in the right direction for procuring that? I know direct links aren’t allowed, so perhaps PM with details?

Although totally unrelated to this project, I just uploaded on that popular organ of the human body an MKV version of this 2002 cut that is made from the following elements:

• A 720p capture of the film from HDNET.
• All of the audio tracks from the 2002 DVD release that I’ve sync’d to this capture which includes:
  • The 2002 English sound-mix in DTS 5.1 channel sound
  • The 2002 English sound-mix in Dolby Digital 5.1 channel sound
  • The 2002 French sound-mix in Dolby Digital 5.1 channel sound
  • The Live-Performance Audio from the premiere-screening at the Shrine Auditorium featuring John Williams’ Oscar-winning music score being performed live to picture, orchestra conducted by the composer, in Dolby Digital 5.1 channel sound

This capture was made by another member of that said forum and it was previously released in October 2016 in that forum as part of his BD50 ISO file, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Archives [BD-50]. Unfortunately, in that ISO, one of the 2 audio streams, the live performance audio, was not sync’d property to this capture. With my own copy of that 2002 DVD, I made a rip of it, took out a few seconds—both at the beginning, just before the studio logo clip appears and at the end, just after the end credits; and muxed both the AC3 and DTS streams from that DVD to the capture. All the streams are properly sync’d to this video. That member gave me his permission to release this capture provided that it be kept in that forum.

Also, this capture has a HDNET MOVIES logo on the bottom right-side of the screen that is displayed for one time at the duration of 11 seconds.

Hopefully, this post will re-ignite this project for a higher-resolution quality of the reconstruction for this version of the film.

If this project does get restarted, please, let me know if I can help with the audio sync’ing/editing.

Why DD and DTS? Are the mixes different?

I prefer DTS over DD, however it probably doesn’t matter unless the mixes are different. If not, please consider removing the DD track…

I know this is a thread is a few years old, but is it possible to get a copy?

As a kid in the early 2000’s, this is actually the version of the movie that I grew up with and I’d love an HD version of it if it’s still available.

Would be an interesting undertaking if someone found a 35mm of this version, can even be DCP maybe?, then scan it for an extra disc in an official release from Universal. Not as crazy as http://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=2002#4 of course.
Would be better than an HDTV find.
