Or provide a wave file of a M & E (Music and Effects) audio track, so that members can prepare foreign language audio-mixes to your edits.

It could at least be a lossless compressed format (FLAC) to save on online storage size

But this is impossible, as it would first require that Ady has an M&E track of the movie which…no one does outside Lucasfilm?

Since the lengths of Ady’s SW fan-edits are different from the final-theatrical lengths of the films, custom audio-mixes would have been created to conform with the lengths of Ady edits. There are audio-files of the unique sound-effects from the SW franchise that have been collected and stored by the fans and other fans have used these audio files to make custom edits of their favorite SW films. This was the case for these Ady SW fan-edits.

So preparing a Music and Effects audio file–with the English dialogue removed–from these custom audio mixes is possible. It’s just a matter of Ady wanting to do one and share them.

Obviously Ady’s going to have to be the final word on this, but I do not think that’s the case. I’m pretty sure he was using some version of the theatrical audio (Harry Hen’s 5.1 remaster?) for the base, and then making edits along the way. A full creation of an M&E track for even one film is probably impossible; I doubt that all sound effects used at all points in the film have been made available elsewhere, to say nothing of foley work, unreleased bits of music, etc.

It’s best to do what CatBus does with conforming Special Edition dubs to Despecialized - just make edits to replicate the media it’s synching to and present it like that.

On that dub note, I do hope Adywan keeps all the mono mix bits he added in for the SD version. There’s a new mono mix restoration in beta testing at the 4K77/80/83 forums (MaestroDavros’ production) which might be useful.

I thought about this more, and it is a great idea for a fan project which you (alexp120) should attempt.

I have no idea yet. The blu-ray is likely to be 25gb. Partly because only a handful would want to download a 50gb file, (hell, i get complaints that an 8gb file takes too long for people to download) but also online storage to enable people to freely download is a major issue. I want to keep the video as high quality as possible. I ahve the ability now to encode a DTS-MA audio file, but the size is just under 5gb. That really eats into available space to fit on a BD-25.

I wouldn’t mind a larger file to fit on a BD-50 as an alternative.

@adywan As long as it doesn’t have compression artifacts and actually look good and not bad because of compression then 25gb is fine.

Will the Blu-Rays have menus, too? I loved how the DVD for ANH:R was made in the style of the official 2004 DVDs, so I hope your Blu-Rays will match the official 2020 Blu-Ray menus, if it’s possible.

The official Blu-Ray menus are terrible. Just cheap looking. So the menus on the Revisited blu-rays will look nothing like them

Good point. Fine with me.

Is it okay if I ask what percent of ANH:R HD is finished? Does doing so violate the rules?

Hey Adywan!
quick question are you going tp be fixing this?

Another error that isn’t shown in that pic is in the scene before the MF goes into hyperspace, Han is wearing his pilot’s gloves. Then in the next shot with Chewbacca suddenly wearing his bandolier belt, Han is no longer wearing them.

If adywan decides to fix these things then that would be great.

Are the alien subtitles for this and ROTJ:R going to be burned in, like on the 2020 Blu-Rays?

There have been some minor enhancements made for the 2020 Blu-Ray of ANH. I know that ANH:R HD will be a mixture of the 2011 and 2020 Blu-Rays, but will you be using the latter for most of these shots?

It’s too hard for me.

I must admit it’s starting to become annoying for me. I receive emails for thread updates in case Ady posts something, but all I’ve been getting the past week are extremely specific requests and questions that Ady has already answered for the most part.

I’m sorry, then. I won’t request anything else.

OK, Here is the sneak peek at the new ANH:R HD edit of the Obi-Wan/ Vader duel.
The editing in the HD version differs slightly from the SD version . In the final version there will be two audio tracks: The main 5.1 track will be the music less versions, while track 2 will have the added music as seen in the original SD version of ANH:R

Right off the bat, the adjustments made to this sequence greatly improves upon the original. That being the color correction, the re-rotoscoping of the lightsabers, the jumpcut fix with Obi-Wan’s lightsaber, and the shuffling around of scenes to improve the pacing. It’s really impressive just seeing this in comparison to the 2020 Blu-Ray.

Although, I do have some questions about certain fixes/changes such as, the color correction being different from the regrade of the 2011 Blu-Ray from a while back, the lightsaber sound effects sourced from the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (2011 Blu-Ray) being swapped for sound effects from the 1977 Dolby Stereo Track, and the “Your powers are weak, old man.” and “You should not have come back.” lines switching places from the original.

Why’s that?

Actually the audio used is the 1997 SE theatrical 5.1 DTS throughout with only the dialogue for Vader using the 2011 DTS track because of the differences. Sound effects for the clashes have been added due to the editing. The mix for the 2011/2020 blu-rays is horrendous when compared to the 1997 5.1 DT theatrical. I’ve been noticing so many things missing from the blu-ray mixes; missing foley, sound effects coming from the wrong channels amongst other things. It also a very flat mix in places. So the final release audio track will be a combination of the 97 theatrical DTS & the 2001 blu-ray mix. The lines were swapped around in the original ANH:R, so i kept it that way. The old regrade i did was only ever going to used as a basis for this edit. This will have an updated grade

Looks great! I just can’t help but think that, knowing what we now know, I don’t think Obi Wan would call him “Darth”, would he? I think Anakin or Vader would be better. Maybe both?

It’s looking fantastic! I especially like how you straightened out the pylon in the first shot of Vader (which has bugged me for ages).

Also, speaking of sound mixes, will the mono mix insertions (Beru’s voice, “It’s secure,” “Blast it Wedge,” and the exterior cantina music) also return? There’s a new mono mix restoration in beta testing on the 4K77 forum.

I was wondering if it would be reasonable to trim “Darth” out of ObiWan’s line.
