Tiny nit-pick; The tracking device has been done. Come up with another way.

I think this is their way to tie into the OT a little; maybe that’s why Leia is so certain that “they let us go” in ANH; she’s seen it happen before.

So OT characters aren’t really smart: they just react or take decisions in regards of things they have already seen before…

It’s terrible how damaging this show is for the OT 😕

It’s on par with AOTC dumb scene with the sphere training stuff (so dumb that it made its way into Mando and TROS…)

Alright, this episode lost me.

I’m so bored by action sequences longer than three minutes unless 1) they’re rooted in stunt choreography as craft or 2) building character, so this entire episode just washed over me. There were like no stakes. Everything they’ve ever been good at with this show before, wasn’t in here.

I’m surprised you say that as the opening bacta tank scene was my favourite scene in the episode.

Done to death, I agree, but I liked the twist of the tracking device being Leia’s droid. That’s actually pretty cruel. It seems like Lola has been her constant companion for years.

But the biggest problem is the ever increasing bond between Obi & Leia. The more they progress with this, the more she is a heartless bitch in ANH. That guy risked everything for her and she had this close bond. But she doesn’t even react when he is trapped and about to die in ANH? Yet the boy who has known him for 5 minutes reacts the opposite way? Wow. that calls her character into question. This should never have been Leia in this story. There is no peril because we know who survives.

Honestly it doesn’t ruin Leia for me as much as it undermines the original film and makes it look more like Leia’s perspective wasn’t taken into account. It makes me think back to this meme:

Which is already kind of silly when you think about it. But now it’s even crazier cause she was apparently closer to Ben than Luke was also.

Aaaand now its not a nit-pick. 😉
Hadn’t even considered that. Well spotted, sir.

I agree. I assumed it was somehow on the ship. To put it where she’ll take it to her home in the one device she trusts completely, very cruel.

As we see frequently in this series, Leia knows things. In ANH, the typical torture does not get her to talk. Even Tarkin’s threats don’t get her to spill the beans on the Rebellion. Vader may or may not sense she is strong with the force, but I’ve observed that a lot of what we see in the OT indicates abilities that could be force related. She seems to be able to pick up things from others. The youthful spouting of what she sees may have been tempered by her political training so she may still see a lot of those things, but doesn’t say it like she did when she was 10.

I think the writing of this series so far fits in with the OT very well and really helps bridge a few of the glitches that the PT left us with. Like Leia’s memory of her mother, which could very well be from Bail or Obi-wan.

It’s only a tracking device not a time bomb guys : so much for cruelty 😃

I just think that the show is being a bit bland. They are wasting too much time about this Leia rescue problem (Obi rescued her twice in the show already), when they could show more interesting things. The state of mind of Anakin post-ROTS, Luke’s life in Tatooine, the state of the galaxy with the empire… These points could be explored so much more.

Episode 4 was … new content? It had protagonists that needed to achieve a goal, antagonists with opposing goals, along with a beginning, middle, and end.

Seriously though, it’s really weird how different the experience watching this show is compared to Mandalorian. This show feels aggressively bland. The music is giving me flashbacks to 90s-era Berman Star Trek.

I just don’t get these writers. This show feels like it was constructed by a generic Star Wars content algorithm. I was hoping for some deeper exploration of Obi Wan’s relationship with Anakin - possibly flashbacks to the Clone Wars even. But so far no… just generic Star Wars rescue sequence in generic Imperial facility #45345 featuring inept Stormtroopers and cliched last minute saves.

Also, why is the Empire keeping dead Jedi in stasis in the basement? What the hell is possibly the point of this? Is it suggesting some kind of evil medical research/medical experiments? This wouldn’t be a Disney+ Star Wars show without a random scene showing weird shifty medical research that foreshadows something ominous having to do with cloning/Snoke/Palpatine/JFK assassination but is probably never followed up because the writers don’t actually know what’s going on.

That scene with Vader about to kill Reva was freakin’ awesome. Scared the shit out of me. And it screams classic Vader.

Have we ever seen him that pissed off onscreen before? Because I don’t think so. And I think that one short scene is Vader’s best in the series so far.

In the Tantive IV in ANH.

Also this is a younger, more passionate Vader. It’s an adaptation of himself in the 2017 comics by Charles Soule. Which is what I’ve always wanted. And I can’t wait to see more of him.

And he still focuses his anger appropriately, as he does in the later movies.

Except when he didn’t kill her hah. He ends up being soo impressed that she is tracking them that it seems in the last episode that Vader actually couldn’t get to Obi-Wan through the flames. Everyone was saying “he meant to let him leave, he’s got something smart up his sleeve”. Turns out Vader failed just to force grab weak Ben one more time and drag him over again. But Reva is the super “clever” one…even Vader is just relying on these bumbling Inquisitors to do what he should be dealing with on a very personal basis.

Sorry I don’t like what they are doing with any character in this thing.

Totally agree. Now the scene of Vader letting Obi-Wan get away in episode 3 doesn’t make any sense, mostly because of his reaction in today’s episode, when he’s pissed off after thinking that Reva let Obi-Wan escape. If Vader was so concerned of getting Obi-Wan, why he didn’t in episode 3?

This feels like a nitpick of what I think is the best part of the series. The relationship between Obi-wan and Leia is the beating heart of this story and I always love their scenes together. We don’t even really focus on Leia’s reaction to his duelling Vader in ANH, and though I’ll give you that Luke seems more sad about it than she does afterwards, I don’t think it’s anywhere near a good enough reason to justify not doing this story.

Hell, maybe Leia doesn’t remember much from when she was 9. I know I don’t.

No, it’s not a nitpick at all. This whole relationship that’s being portrayed in this series messes with the OT. Especially with Leia ending up being “The Other”. As it stood prior to this series, Ben was watching over Luke. He thought that Luke was the one that was their “only hope” and so did Yoda. But now, all of a sudden, we learn that he had this huge bond with leia. He got to know her and saw just how strong she is. While Luke is just out there playing pod racer. So why didn’t he see that she was the stronger one? That it was Leia that should have been trained ? Or at least trained as well? Obi-Wan is kind of a misogynistic dick now then isn’t he? Only a boy is good enough for them. 😉

Like i said before, this should have been Luke that Ben was out to rescue. He could have been captured by Slave traders or such and then, on the quest to find rescue Luke, Obi-Wan falls on the Empires radar. Then that bond could have been still present in the same way and it would have lead nicely into ANH. Because it’s obvious that Luke knows Ben. He recognises him straight away. “boy am i glad to see you”. Obi-Wan has rescued him again. And the emotional weight of Luke seeing Ben killed is enhanced ( even though it didn’t need to be).

Obi-Wan could have offered to find Luke and Owen reluctantly agrees after some persuasion from Beru. But once Luek is back with his family Owen is angry at Obi-Wan because of how close Vader came to learning he had offspring and painting a target on Luke’s back. He blames Obi-Wan for the Empire getting involved in this rescue. And he banishes Obi-Wan from ever having anything to do with Luke.

I agree about Leia but it couldn’t be Luke either, that would be even worse. Luke clearly doesn’t know much about Obi Wan other than he’s a crazy old hermit that he might have seen occasionally. He has no idea what the Jedi are or what the Force is.

I liked this episode up until the ending, kind of similar to the last episode in that way. It had some good action and sneaking around for a little while. You guys have already said everything: tired of Leia getting rescued, don’t care about new characters (WADE!!) that we’ve never met, the bad guys are unnecessarily dumb, and I reeaaally hate the implication that Vader couldn’t come up with the idea of putting a tracking device on a ship on his own, he had to be taught it from this annoying character. If that’s not what they’re implying then it’s still not good, because it’s just a massive lack of originality and another way they were repeating the same ideas from the original movie.

Yet again all the major problems are a result of Leia and Reva being in the show. All the continuity breaks, all the screentime being wasted, the repetitive dialogue. When it’s all over I really would like to see an analysis of how much time Obi Wan is actually on screen in his own show.

The inquisitors in general are a mistake but that’s a different story.

The inquisitors didn’t have to be a mistake, the mistake is that they’re like power ranger villains.

Well, Obi-Wan certainly seems to have shaken off the rust with his force powers and lightsaber techniques now, he used both very effectively. =) A solid episode.

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

I like how he struggles to use the Force on his own but it comes to him more naturally when he’s saving Leia from something. The scene where he cracks the window glass and floods a corridor was awesome, and a big step up from pulling a random object towards himself earlier.

I’m surprised you say that as the opening bacta tank scene was my favourite scene in the episode.

Personally I thought it was a weak way to have them connect, but I’m mostly talking about the new gang we meet. Severely underdeveloped characters, that one guy at first hesitates to help only to have an inexplicable change of heart… then there’s Wade who dies at the end and… we’re supposed to feel for him, I guess? Like, the issue isn’t that they’re there, it’s that we’re supposed to care. They’re obviously representing the fight against oppression and the cost of the mission to the point that it shouldn’t matter who they are, but not even the symbolic nature of the role helps that brief storyline to succeed, like it does for me in Rogue One, and it really drags the whole thing. Doesn’t help that the rest of the episode was mostly boring…

I didn’t think we were supposed to care about Wade at all. He’s like Porkins or the other pilots in the original Death Star battle. Sure we care that they die, but there is no connection. The only death there that there was a connection or that were were supposed to care about was Biggs. And even then, only because Luke so obviously did.

Great example. Every death in the Death Star is effective in the exact way I’m talking about Wade’s death was not.

I’m very disappointed by the poor art direction in this series. Scenes just don’t look good.

The lighting is bad and reveals the shortcomings of costumes and sets, especially on 4K. Yes, stormtroopers were always plastic, but in this series, they look like toys, with no weight.

And the limits of the volume are plainly obvious because they are simply using it as a back-projection screen. You can clearly see where the studio floor ends, and having background extras standing exactly at that spot doesn’t help! I could go on about the editing or music, but I think you get my point.

Not a bad series, but it’s being brought down by poor visuals.
