True Lies 35mm (Released) — Page 2

I have the D-VHS rip but this is the first I heard of a nice 35mm print. As a new member here I would like to get access to this version. Thanks.

Just watched this movie from the DVD I got from the library, never knew it wasn’t available in HD or 4K officially.

Do you guys feel this release is better than the D-Theatre RIP?

Tbh the Dtheatre rip isn’t a version I would bother with anyway its got a serious frame rate issue or something, for a clean HD version the amazon rip is the one you need but the 35mm is a really nice looking version too

I’d love to see this myself. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I would like a link to this if someone could send me one.

Would also appreciate a link.

Can I have a link as well?

I have altered Lucas’ visions. Pray I don’t alter them any further.

Where can we download this? I’ve never seen True Lies and would love to see the 35mm version with the original theatrical mix.

Guys please stop sending me PMs about this. I don’t have a link any more and it’s not my scan. Also it’s 2022 not 2018 times have moved on. In 2018 the scan quality on this project was good. Note: good, not great. If True Lies is important to people you should look for a new print and get it scanned professionally. It can be done affordably at quality that will wipe the floor with the old scan.

As you mentioned, would be nice if someone got a nice print and did an excellent 4K scan including 4K file. With subtitles, of course.

I’m new to the fan-edit, 35mm preservation game, so I never really knew these types of scans existed until a couple months ago. I couldn’t believe this movie isn’t more readily available in HD, whether that be Blu-ray or even digital purchase.

Maybe this print will start circulating around again before the TV show based on the movie comes out. I won’t hold my breath, but a guy can dream! LOL

Not that I have the money, but where do people source prints of films? I tried looking on ebay, but it seems like most of the stuff on there is trailers.

As RU.08 mentioned some year ago this print was “good, not great”. Now that Cameron missed the mark on the new 4K transfer, with the apparent *“I don’t like film grain A.I grain removing tool” we should either rest the case for this preservation and be happy with the 35mm theatrical 1.0 version or find a new print and sort things out. But, that’s easy for me to suggest.

Below is a screenshot from a theatrical trailer 35mm 4K scan made by FT Depot. Considering that a theatrical trailer printed at that time would not necessarily have the same color timing as the fully theatrical release print I feel that the V 1.0 print is way off in colors. But with that said, it wouldn’t be fair to compare a theatrical trailer 35mm scan with a release print. However, I do feel that the film scan (V 1.0) should be looked over.

Theatrical release V 1.0 35mm

  • 4K transfers of original negatives:
“Optimized by Park Road’s proprietary deep-learning algorithms—to create a new 4K Digital Intermediate. Photochemical grain has been greatly reduced, though not eliminated entirely, and it should be noted that this isn’t the usual Digital Noise Reduction with which people have long been familiar (a dreaded and blunt instrument). Unlike an image scrubbed with DNR, this process hasn’t removed all of the fine image detail. Not only does that detail remain, it too has been “enhanced” algorithmically”

Certainly very possible the trailer is not timed at all, which is why it looks more neutral compared to the print. That’s not to say the print is more betterer and correct however, but I’d inch toward it moreso than the trailer.

Trailer isn’t timed at all, nope. No siree. Can reference it to a VHS or Betacam, too.

Lat to the party, but yeah trailers aren’t color timed. Or, that is to say, they are made well before the final color timing of the final film is done so even the same shot can look completely different on a trailer compared to the theatrical release.

Any way I can get this? I do not approve of the new 4K Blu-Ray release at all.

A print recently sold on ebay but nobody doing these projects had the money on the spot to cover it and get it.

Hi everyone, is this still floating around anywhere? That 4k looks too poor for words
