Hello Everyone,

I am TGR97 or better known as Wedge Antilles in the Jurassic Park community. I come to you today to tell you about a special project that I have been blessed to be a part of. I teamed up with fellow OT Forum user doombot to bring to you all 4K scans of the 35mm reels for the original Jurassic Park Trilogy!

What does this mean? Well, we will be bringing to you 4K scans of the Open Matte versions of Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3 as well as a matted version of The Lost World! They will also be presented in the original colors as it was seen in the theatres, making it the most authentic versions of the films out there!

So far, we have:
• Fully scanned JP3 and are working to clean it up
• Currently scanning TLW
• Fully scanned and encoded in 4k Open Matte version of the first Jurassic Park teaser from 1992.
• Fully scanned and encoded in 4k Open Matte version of a Jurassic Park trailer from 1992.

We still have to do:
• Jurassic Park

We are looking to collect 1.4k to finish this project! If anyone wants to donate, please send me a DM and I will give you the donation link.

By donating, you will get access to everything you see here + whatever other special goodies we can get + downloadable custom Blu Ray kits made by me!

Here are some pics for JP3! https://imgur.com/a/HImMONp

TARGET: 3000$ USD

DONATED (as of 2022/08/07): 3000$

WE ARE FULLY FUNDED BABY

Is this the same scan of JP 1 that’s been floating around for awhile, or this a completely new scan?

Author
Time

No, this is a completely different print from that.

I can get another print as well. Which may be required depending on the condition of the one they have. 😉

The 4K disc release of Jurassic Park has quite a bit of DNR. Is it from a 3D conversion?

Most likely it would be.

Based on the screenshots I’ve seen, the 4K seems to be transferred from the same source as the regular Blu-ray.

We have the cinema DTS you don’t need to worry about that, I would suggest you join my Discord server and mention you’re interested in the JP project. We’ve got a sample of the scan quality there. They’re using a high-end setup for the scans.

While the UHD of JP1 looks like an older master, The Lost World and JP3 appear to have new ones. Also JP1 is not taken from the 3D version as it has less DNR and has mistakes removed for the 3D version.

Definitely excited to keep track of this project. Saw a 35mm scan of the original JP the other day and I can’t wait to try and watch it on a projector. I may be in the minority, but I also really love JP3, so knowing that someone is going to show it some love by preserving it warms my heart!

There will be a massive improvement over the old scan for JP1.

Hopefully the CGI shots will be presented in their full 5:3 aspect ratio this time around.

The CGI was printed at 1.85:1 just like any other film of the time.

Maybe, but either way, the open matte print currently circulating has the CGI cropped to 16:9.

The CGI scenes were hard-matted at 1.85. 1.78 is close but not exact. So called “unmatted” CGI shots are not known to exist. If they do they’re not on the theatrical prints.
