I like that. In this case establishing a time frame for the fleet to arrive helps add to the stakes of the situation.
Nitpicks, but I would also try different wordings of the last sentence.
“They’ll launch within the hour.”
“They’re launching within the hour.”
“They expect to launch within the hour.”
