You oviously don't understand that George Lucas made The Phantom Menace so damn light hearted because of the fact that he new Revenge of the Sith will be so dark.
You do realise that makes no sense don't you? But then again, Lucas has never made any sense in the way he makes movies.
It makes perfect sense. It gets a progressily darker tone. The Phantom Menace is a time of peace. Before the Clone Wars before the Empire at a time when the galaxy was at peace. This is why it is as light hearted as it could have been. Attack of the Clones progresses to a time where the whole galaxy is at the brink of a massive war. The result is the movie has a much darker tone and is alot less of a kids movie. Its tone was much darker then Return of the Jedi and a bit darker then A New Hope. However The Empire Strikes Back is still the darkest and most adult of the series. Revenge of the Sith is the beginning of the empire and the slaughter of the Jedi Knights. This is the most dark time in the series and the movie is going to reflect.
