" man i thought that IT was good when I was a kid but watching it now... not so good. "

I thought it was a leeeettle cheesy, but I like it overall. Curry certainly kicked ass in that film.

(I still remember the scene in the library, when no one else sees the balloons. Despite this, some of the people blink when they pop. )

BTW, I recently saw Darkness. Odd story, but DAMN, was it spooky. I read a review saying it was a great exercise in building suspense, and I have to agree wholeheartedly. Few films have made my skin crawl like this one did. It's amazing how scary the film is without falling back on "stuff jumping up in your face", as most films tend to rely on now.

I agree. My buddy and I had an advance screener of this and I really liked it. But when I tried to get people to go check it out, they just wrote it off as another teenybop horror flick because of Paquin. (Which is ridiculous.) I thought it was a really nice little creep out flick.

You know a really cool flick (at least I think so)? INTRUDER. It was directed by Scott "I'm Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell AND Quentin Tarantino's buddy but I just can't seem to break through" Spiegel and was written by Spiegel and Lawrence Bender (Tarantino's producer). It is about the last night of a crew working at a grocery store that has just been bought out by a major chain that are terrorized by an unseen killer. It has Sam and Ted Raimi in it, as well as cameos by Bender and Campbell. I have the uncut version on VHS and it has some really nice gore courtesy of one of the first collaborations of KNB EFX Group.

Interesting note about Spiegel... a homeless Tarantino was crashing on this guy's couch when he was writing Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.

I hate horror movies, but The Mothman Prophecies honestly was so scary that it affected my life in a really negative way. I couldn't sleep without my curtains closed and my desk-lamp on for TWO MONTHS. The problem with this movie is that whether or not you believe it is true depends on whether or not you believe the eyewitness accounts of the people who said they saw it. If you haven't watched the movie, watch it and then watch the documentary on it afterwards. It's bloody scary.

Dude, I LOVE Mothman Prophecies! That movie rocks in so many different ways. The music (especially the final song), the effects, the acting. I can watch this from beginning to end over and over again.

Are you KIDDING me?! I mean, I thought it was a good movie, and it certainly succeeded in scaring the living hell out of me, but to watch it OVER AND OVER AGAIN because you ENJOY it?! That's crazy. I could see it *maybe* once a year, tops. After which, I'd need a few weeks to recover...

But by all means, whip out the popcorn and go for it, if that's what you're into!

Some people just derive some enjoyment from being scared, whether it's the adrenaline surge from **BOO!!** jump-scares or seeing people pleading for their existence at axe-point and thinking "better him than me." I for one look forward to the launch of The Horror Channel and really dig horror movies, as long as they're at least decent and show a little bit of creativity. My wife doesn't get into them much at all, so I usually wind up seeing them by myself. I think it's a fair trade for being able to skip American romantic comedies.

Whoa there, cowboy. I said I *could*, not that I *did*. The point being, whenever I see it on TV, I always tune into it.

Amen, brother! I have the two disc set and I watch it all the time. Pennington is a GREAT director and I really wish that he would get the chance to stretch. Listening to his commentary and watching the documentaries on this set, you really can see that it is amazing the film was as good as it turned out, what with all of the crap that he had to put up with.

As far as the actual Mothman, I dunno. I researched it quite a bit when the flick first came out and never really came to a conclusion on whether or not I believed it. But I did talk to a couple of guys who lived down in Corpus Christi, TX that swear up and down that they saw this thing. And listening to them, seeing the look in their eyes when they were talking about it... kinda hard to think that they were lying to me.

Did you know that Point Pleasant actually has a Mothman event every year? I was so obsessed with this flick around the time of its release, I almost went. LOL!

Take out MOTHMAN and insert STAR WARS SPECIAL EDITIONS AND PREQUELS and I agree with you whole heartedly!

Land Of The Dead is okay... pretty good, even. but really not very ambitious at all, plot-wise. the fun of the Living Dead series for me was that they were always genuinely scary & claustrophobic and they had fairly clever & challenging philosophical overtones to 'em at the same time. Land Of The Dead just doesn't have anything terribly interesting to say, beyond what's already been said by the previous Living Dead movies. i was hoping for something a bit more fresh and original. it's still pretty entertaining, though, despite feeling like a re-hash.

Not sure if anyone has ever seen it, but "The Ugly" was a very good, but very disturbing film. Think Silence of the Lambs, American Psycho, and Psycho but more visceral and yes even more creepy. I've only watched it once, because the pure psychology and death scenes were done so well, it was hard enough to forget about it the first time, it will be a while before I see it again. Good movie though.

I've seen those - I've actually got the 1979 one playing in the background. I love that Wagnerian music.

LOL....the first one was marginally better.

Just saw "Ring Two" for the hell of it. Bad. In fact, there's a short film included called "Rings", with the events that take place prior to "Ring Two". It was far more interesting than the actual film. Much more concise and scary.

If you're looking for Evil Dead 1 on DVD, DO NOT get the Anchor Bay widescreen editions. Get the Elite Entertainment full-screen (harder to find, but worth the search). I say this because the movie was filmed in fullscreen. To make it widescreen on DVD, they just cut off the top and bottom of the frame.


Anchor Bay sucks.

There are obviously so many great classic horror films like Jaws, Phantasm, Evil Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Hellraiser, The Omen, Carpenter's The Thing, Alien, The Howling, Cronenberg's The Fly, Cannibal Holocaust, Suspiria, The Beyond and Last House on the Left but in the last 15 years (considered by many to be a lean time for good horror fans) my top 5 would include In The Mouth of Madness, The Lord of Illusions, The Resurrected, The Devil's Reject and The Blair Witch Project. Dog Soldiers comes close as does the remake of The Ring, its one of the few remakes that I would consider superior to the original (along with the '78 Invasion of the Body Snatchers and John Carpenter's The Thing). Also give me pretty much anything by Carpenter and I'll take it. Prince of Darkness, They Live, The Thing, The Fog, Halloween and even Ghosts of Mars; loved them all!

@ Segaflip - I've seen Killer Klowns, in fact I have it on DVD. Classic. I love the theme by The Dickies!

@ 3RA1N1AC - The point is really that we've all grown up with the full frame version of the film, not the widescreen one and to take away the top and bottom of the picture now when its considered a modern horror classic is the same as George messing the O-OT. Just like the recent "widescreen" release of The Sting, its always been available as full frame and now we have to suffer with the cropped version, just a shame. I hate that they are now altering the aspect of some classic movies only to fit widescreen TV's. Its the exact same crap that we put up with for years with Pan & Scan versions of films on VHS (and to some extent still on DVD), removing information from the frame for the sake of the masses. Utter B.S. if you ask me.
