4K77 seems a little grainy and I don’t remember my VHS being like this. In fact I remember my ANH VHS as having great quality, compared to the other two which were ex rentals. It could just be my memory though and maybe the picture wasn’t as good as I remembered.
Try 4K77 DNR. It’s the same at 4K77, but it has less grain.
I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.
Star Wars has a lot of grain. and it is very soft, almost blurry in places. But it doesn’t have near the level of grain as say American Graffiti, i was watching a version that predates the blu ray without the dnr and the techniscope grain is like sand all over it. I can see managing the grain but they blu ray is awful detail is lost.
Would i watch THX 1138 and American Graffiti with all the grain intact, sure. But i’m sure someone would complain. George Lucas himself is the one who had Lowry remove the grain.
Who didn’t grow up with VHS versions of any movie unless you’ve been born in the 2000s? Seems a bit weird question to ask, should we just abandon all 4K releases? 😄
