There’s a huge difference between not having a character be overpowered and a character not taking charge over her own fate, just letting things happen to her. Spence you are clearly moving this in the right direction. And if you are at all interested in how to flesh out a “Rey killed her parents” edit I’ve done some legwork there that everyone is free to use.
