G4's Icons: Star Wars Games
Following the debut of the first Star Wars film in the late 1970's, Star Wars
games have become an almost natural extension of the series' plot and experience,
feeding the frenzy of fans thirsting for more. Starting with the first arcade
game in 1983, fans went nuts for anything based on the series, spawning the first
rush of Star Wars games to the home console market. However, it was not until
1991 that LucasFilm Games (now LucasArts) produced their own game based off
their most famous series for the Nintendo Entertainment System. They would go
on to produce a number of hits including X-Wing, TIE Fighter and Dark Forces II:
Jedi Knight, though working with their proprietary content did not guarantee them
a good game, as proven by such flops as Masters of Teras Kasi and Star Wars:
Rebellion. However, the release of the new Star Wars Trilogy beginning in 1999
would prove to inject new life into the series of games including Jedi Academy,
Knights of the Old Republic and the series' first MMO, Star Wars Galaxies..
Animal Icons: Star Wars Creatures
Gives viewers a glimpse into the stories behind the unique and quirky creatures
that define these epic films. From Ewoks to Wookiees to Boga, Star Wars movies
have given us some of the world's most memorable fantasy creatures — aliens so
vivid, they almost seem real.
Where did the idea for Jabba the Hutt originate? Did you know the character of
Chewbacca was inspired by film creator George Lucas' family dog? ANIMAL ICONS:
STAR WARS CREATURES unveils how these fantasy creatures were derived from actual
animals found on Earth. Airing the eve of the premiere of the sixth and final
film, STAR WARS: EPISODE III-Revenge of the Sith, the special features interviews
with the actors, animators and creature designers, including George Lucas and
stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. The program explores how
Lucas transferred his breakthrough vision from script to the big screen and
reveals the real-life origins of Lucas’ Star Wars menagerie.
Star Wars fans will recognize the distinctive voice of narrator Anthony Daniels,
who portrays C-3PO. The only actor to star in all six Star Wars films, Daniels
leads viewers through the stories of the films' creatures as shown in wall-to-
wall footage from previous films. Audiences are also treated to footage from the
highly anticipated Revenge of the Sith.

SF003 - Biography Channel's Sir Alec Guinness (PAL)

Info Coming soon.
SF004 - Generation Jedi (PAL)

On 19 May 2005 the final Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith, is released. For
anyone growing up in the 1970s, this event will probably represent a significant
point in their lives.
Quite simply, these movies have guided Star Wars fans through their different
life stages of the past 25 years. As kids they watched the original trilogy, it
became a cult in adolescence, the new prequels were produced in their twenties,
and it’s going to end in their 30’s and 40's.
In Generation Jedi, Dermot O’Leary tells the story of a generation of fans
through the parable of Star Wars. From the innocence of A New Hope to the darkest
episode to date in Revenge of the Sith, he asks whether this journey represents a
modern metaphor for our times - politically, socially, culturally, and of course
personally. Dermot also poses the all-important question - have we all turned to
the dark side?
In his quest to discover why Star Wars means so much to fans, Dermot - author,
presenter and representative of Generation Jedi - returns to his home town of
Colchester to meet fellow celebrity fans and real-life Star Wars aficionados
and even hosts his very own Star Wars convention.

SF005 - Biography Channel's George Lucas (PAL)

George Lucas grew up on a Californian walnut ranch, and as a teenager developed
an interest in drag car racing. He planned to become a professional racing driver
but a terrible accident, just after his high school graduation, ended that dream
permanently.
He enrolled in the University of Southern California film school and made several
short films including 'THX-1138: 4EB' which won first prize at the 1967-68 National
Student Film Festival.
In 1967 George grabbed a chance to watch Francis Ford Coppola direct 'Finian's
Rainbow' for Warner Brothers and the men became firm friends, forming the
production company, American Zoetrope, in 1969.
The company's first project was Lucas' full-length version of 'THX:1138'. Four
years later Lucas formed his own company, Lucasfilm.
In 1973 he wrote and directed 'American Graffiti', which won the Golden Globe and
earned five Academy Award nominations, and he began writing the screenplay for
'Star Wars' - a movie he was inspired to make by his love of swashbuckling classics
and pulp sci-fi.
In 1975 he established his own special effects company, ILM (Industrial Light &
Magic) which would create dazzling new illusions for the 'Star Wars' sequels, 'The
Empire Strikes Back' (1980) and 'Return of the Jedi' (1983).
His movie was turned down by several studios until 20th Century Fox gave him a
chance. Lucas agreed to forgo his directing salary in exchange for 40% of the film's
box-office take and all the merchandising rights. Star Wars went on to break all box
office records and earned seven Academy Awards. It redefined the term
'blockbuster'.
In 1980, he was the executive producer of Steven Spielberg's 'Raiders of the Lost
Ark', which won five Academy Awards. He was also co-creator of the story for 'Indiana
Jones and the Temple of Doom' which earned yet another two Academy Award nominations,
and won an Oscar for its visual effects. The 'Indiana Jones' series made box office
records of their own.
From 1980 to 1985 Lucas was busy with the construction of Skywalker Ranch near San
Francisco, California. It was built to accommodate the creative, technical, and
administrative needs of the rapidly expanding Lucasfilm.
Lucas also revolutionized movie theatres with the THX Sound System, which was created
to maintain the highest quality standards in motion picture viewing and improve the
quality of sound in movie theatres.
Lucas provided all the funding for 'Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back'
(1980), 'Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi' (1983) and 'Star Wars: Episode
I - The Phantom Menace' (1999).
It was the prequels to the original 'Star Wars 'that coaxed Lucas back into the
director's chair. Star Wars: Episode II was released in 2002, while 'Star Wars:
Episode III' is scheduled for 2005.

SF006 - Biography Channel's: Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill(PAL)

Harrison Ford
Harrison went to college in Wisconsin, where he did some acting but, after dropping
out,he signed a Hollywood contract with Columbia.
His introduction into the world of film was the James Coburn 1966 hit, 'Dead Heat
On A Merry-Go-Round', in which he had a very small, walk-on role as a hotel porter.
Discouraged by the lack of quality film roles on offer, and not wanting to be
pigeon-holed in television, he turned to a new career - carpentry. He did very well
out of this trade - in fact, he built the elaborate entrance for Francis Ford
Coppola's office at Goldwyn Studios.
But then his luck changed. An unknown young director named George Lucas cast him
in a supporting role in 1973's 'American Graffiti', giving the actor's film career
a new lease of life. Four years later the loyal Lucas chose him for the role of
space pilot, Han Solo, in 'Star Wars', the mega-success that finally made Harrison
Ford a household name.
By the time its sequel, 'The Empire Strikes Back', was released, Harrison had
expanded his acting range in several other films, before appearing in his third
Star Wars film, 'Return of the Jedi'.
He appeared in another hugely successful blockbuster, as the intrepid adventurer
Indiana Jones, in Steven Spielberg's 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', and his performance
in 'Witness' earned him his first Oscar nomination.
Over the next 10 years, his films varied from legal thrillers ('Presumed Innocent')
and classic romantic comedies ('Sabrina'), to more action-adventure blockbusters
('Patriot Games'). His role as Dr Richard Kimble in 'The Fugitive' in 1993 earned
him a Golden Globe nomination.
Now a big box office success, Harrison commands huge fees, reportedly receiving
more than £20m to star in 'K-19: The Widowmaker'.
When not working, one of Harrison Ford's greatest passions is flying. He has his
pilot's licence, owns six aircraft, including a helicopter and a Gulfstream Jet,
and even bought the aircraft he piloted in his 1998 comedy, 'Six Days, Seven Nights'.
Mark Hamill
As a consequence of Mark’s father’s career in the US Navy, the family moved
regularly, so Mark’s early years encompassed regular travel within the United
States and abroad. He also spent some years in Japan, graduating from High School
there.
After his graduation, the Hamills moved back to the Unites States, to California,
where Mark attended Los Angeles City College, studying Theatre Arts.
In addition to voiceover parts, early roles included parts in American series such
as 'The Cosby Show' and 'General Hospital', but his first real success came in 1977,
when he followed the advice of his fellow actor and friend, Robert Englund, and got
the part of Luke Skywalker, in 'Star Wars'. His fame mirrored that of the film,
which became a worldwide box office sensation.
This has proved a mixed blessing, however. The public’s absolute association of
him with the Skywalker character made it difficult for Mark to break out of the
mould of the young hero and, despite some notable film successes, he concentrated
principally on theatre work, with roles in 'Amadeus', 'The Nerd' and 'The
Elephant Man'.
Besides stage acting, he rekindled his voiceover talents. He is now one of the
most prolific voiceover actors for animated films in Hollywood, with roles as
The Joker in 'Batman' and Hobgoblin in 'Spiderman' among his hundreds of series
and features credits, which also include interactive PC games.
Other work has included writing scripts for television, as well as comic books,
and he made his directorial debut with 'Comic Book: The Movie', in 2004.

SF007 - Biography Channel's: Carrie Fisher, Samuel L Jackson and Franch & Saunder's: The Phantom Millenium

Carrie Fisher
At the tender age of two, Fisher's father, the singer Eddie Fisher, divorced her
mum, Debbie Reynolds, in order to marry Elizabeth Taylor. By the time junior high
school came around, Carrie had started appearing in her mother's Vegas nightclub
act.
A few years later, she dropped out of school and, at seventeen, worked with her
mum again, in the Broadway revival of 'Irene'. Her first part in a movie came in
the 1975 film 'Shampoo', and two years later she appeared in her most widely
recognised role, Princess Leia in 'Star Wars'.
Beating her drug and alcohol dependency, she married and then divorced Paul Simon in
the early eighties. She wrote a book about the experience ('Surrender the Pink'), as
she did about her drug meltdown in the late seventies ('Postcards From the Edge'),
which was later made into a movie that earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination.
She had a daughter, Billie, with Bryan Lourd, but was devastated when he left her
for a man.
Fisher is now one of the highest-paid script doctors in Hollywood, lending her talent
to films such as 'Hook', 'Sister Act', 'Lethal Weapon 3' and 'The Wedding Singer'.
Samuel L Jackson
Samuel Leroy Jackson was brought up by his mother in Chattanooga, Tennessee, after
his father left when he was young.
A bookworm as a child, inheriting a fierce work ethic from his mother, Jackson attended
Atlanta’s Morehouse College, switching from archaeology to drama after speaking lessons
gave him the performance bug.
At Morehouse, he was co-founder of Atlanta's black-oriented Just Us Theater, named
after a Richard Pryor routine.
Arriving in New York in 1977, Jackson began his playing bit-parts and small roles
on film, stage and television that were to be his staple throughout the 1980s.
After years playing drug-dealers and criminals, his break finally came in 1991, with
a role as a drug-addict in ‘Jungle Fever’, directed by Spike Lee, who also attended
Morehouse.
Winning him a special acting prize at Cannes, the role made his name, and led to roles
in ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Menace II Society’ (1993).
1994 was the year that Jackson went supernova, with his role opposite John Travolta in
Quentin Tarantino’s modern classic, ‘Pulp Fiction’. Earning an Oscar nomination for
the performance, he filled out the year by appearing in the low-key ‘Fresh’.
Jackson had joined the big league, supporting Bruce Willis in ‘Die Hard With A Vengeance’
(1995), Geena Davis in ‘The Long Kiss Goodnight’ (1996) and starring in the Grisham
film, ‘A Time To Kill’ (1996).
Maintaining his independent credentials with films by Steve Buscemi and Paul Thomas
Anderson, he returned to Tarantino for 1997’s highlight, ‘Jackie Brown’.
Appearing in big-budget fare such as ‘Sphere’(1998), ‘Deep Blue Sea’(1999) and, most
significantly, ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’ (1999).
Now a true leading man, Jackson starred in the popular homage/remake ‘Shaft’, and
in ‘Unbreakable’ (2000), before reputedly persuading George Lucas to use a purple
light-sabre in ‘Star Wars II: Attack of The Clones’ (2002).
