I remember watching an interview with Douglas Trumbull where he was asked why he didn’t work on Star Wars, and his reply was that he found the movie far too fantastical for his taste, and so George Lucas approached Trumbull’s father instead who happily obliged. The interviewer then asked him if he had any regrets on passing up the chance to work on Star Wars considering how big it got, and he said not at all because he prefers working on more cerebral movies.
