The original Matrix. Bubble gum surface level philosophy, wrapped up into a comic book like world that is completely without any verisimilitude or belief. It only helps that its all happening in a videogame like computer so the ridiculous unbelievable cgi scenes can be forgiven. I still enjoyed the sillyness and fun of it all. Its also a highly overrated movie. Carrie-Anne Moss is fantastic, but i feel like Keanu wasn’t yet the cool guy he is now and he was sort of awkward. I also feel like Neo and Trinity had zero chemistry and Morpheus basically does nothing and Laurence Fishburne’s talents are wasted.

I just watched the film Wolf Children. I had heard praise for the movie for years but had never actually watched it. I had very high expectations going in and to my surprise it exceeded them. This film is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. Almost every aspect was done perfectly. I highly recommend it.

I haven’t watched Wolf Children in years. I’m waiting for Mamoru Hosoda’s latest film Belle to be released.

Loved Girl who Leapt through time, loved summer wars. Mirai was an enjoyable film. Never saw boy and the beast yet.

Saw Belle in the cinema the other day, amazing film. Much more than a simple Beauty and the Beast adaptation.

Yeah just waiting for G-Kids to put out a Blu-Ray and hoping it isn’t another anime i’ll never be able to see because its only available as a streaming thing under a subscription service. It happens far too often these days.

Edit:

I watched The Kings Man. The first half was really trashy and i literally almost turned it off, first half is like one of the worst movies ever. Second half much more somber and then leads into the absurd ending. But it was a huge improvement over the first half of the movie. But it didn’t feel like a Kingsman movie, it wasn’t nearly as fun and over the top or stylish. I honestly would have wanted my money back if i hadn’t seen it for free on HBO, if i had seen it in the theater.

I also rented Eternals and man it was a slow to develop movie, i enjoyed the ending but the setup to get there was slow. But i can see the eternally boring thing people were saying. For an MCU movie it just isn’t a joy to watch more like a homework assignment. But the standout character for me was Phastos i liked him.

The American Friend by Wim Wenders.

A film adaptation of the novel Ripley’s Game. It’s a very beautifully shot film with equally beautiful music. The film itself was a lot of fun and intriguing with suspense. It’s a slow burner and best watched with a clear mind as there’s a lot of subtle nuance and details to keep up with as the plot isn’t always clear as it’s more driven by atmosphere. It’s not a great film as far as narrative is concerned but it was definitely good. All and all it was a pretty good time.

One from the Heart by Francis Ford Coppola.

Incredible. Simply incredible. It’s by far one of the best films I’ve ever seen. It’s nearly flawless. It’s a hybrid musical in the American Graffiti sense with a key dance number. It’s a whimsical realistic fantasy with incredible visual storytelling, mesmerising music from Tom Watts and Crystal Gayle, and subtly within the interactions between the characters. It’s about a couple on the rocks but have a genuine love for each other. What does this mean for them as they embark on spending their anniversary alone? Watch and find out. Yet it’s also so much more than that as you’ll discover.

I’ve read that movie was an unmitigated financial disaster that plunged Coppola into a massive debt that took him several years to get out of.

Yeah the history behind the film is just as interesting and really is heartbreaking in some ways. It’s quite tragic really as the film would’ve been a hit I think if given the proper chance to be. The film though at the same time captures what makes him such a great filmmaker. He’s a rebel and makes the film he wants. You have to admire someone who is uncompromising of wanting nothing short of their vision being accurately presented.

Raiders of the Lost Ark by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.

I finally got to watch the first Indy film without any distractions. It was such a truly great adventure film. It lived up to the hype for sure. I did find the narrative difficult to follow a couple of times with the unexplained time jumps but overall I found that to be a minor inconvenience as the excitement and fun of things more than made up for it. I especially love Marion. She’s already become one of my favourite heroines. Salah was also such a sweet man and René was great too. It had great characters for sure. I think my favourite scenes were the ones at the bar, the market, and the chase sequence. And of course it wouldn’t be a film with sound by Ben Burtt without hearing the Wilhelm scream. It was so great to hear it again! Haha

I saw Spider-Man No Way Home last week. First time going to the theater alone. It was great how the audience was in the single digits, so everyone had the best seats in the house and no disturbances. The film itself was fun, if a little dumb.

The film Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, is the only respectful adaptation of the book. A must see.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

The Seventh Seal by Ingmar Bergman.

It took a second time to understand it as I didn’t quite understand allegory my first attempt watching it but now that I do I found the film to be an incredibly profound experience and while I understand it more now there’s also just as much of a mystery behind it. It’s going to have a lot of rewatch value I think. It’s about a knight who returns home from the Cruscades and is wrestling mostly with his innermost conflict of his own morality. I don’t know how to explain it and don’t neccessary want to as it’s good sometimes not to be swayed too much with certain films before seeing them but I loved it. I highly recommend it as it’s an amazing film. I can certainly see why it’s considered one of the best films of all time.

^ The Seventh Seal is one of the most moving cinematic experiences of my life.

Don’t Look Up, on the other hand, was not. I enjoyed watching it and it was nice to have the time to, but it isn’t film of the year material.

The film The Batman is an excellent combination and amalgamation of the comic storylines Batman Year One, and Batman The Long Halloween! A must see.
