I watched Solo a Star Wars story it was difficult to sit through. Well intentioned but poorly shot and lit. And the movie is all over the place. It can be fun in places. But i still have the unmistakable feeling the leads were miscast. The supporting players are excellent. Still feels like a fanfilm with a kid playing Han. And not actually Han. Should he have played Harrison i’m not sure. But it just doesn’t come off right. Maybe it was on purpose to make him Smug and unlikable.

As many of the targets the film tries to hit and misses i still would have liked a sequel. The film is all setup and there is no payoff.

I watched the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man this morning and it was pretty good, but the villain and score were really lacking.

Blade Runner 2049, it was amazing the pace didnt feel slow at all at least to me. i did dislike the flashbacks to previous scenes though, as if i had forgotten the plot of the film i was watching.

I also wish it wasnt as much of a meme as it was back in '17 i dislike it when im watching a film for the first time and im expecting scenes, but i do realize thats no-ones fault.

How was I to know your kind can’t eat sweetweed?

I watched Cry Macho. It was just okay. It wasn’t anything grand and it is far from Eastwood’s best. But i couldn’t hate it because he is such a legend.

But it wasn’t a tenth as good as The Mule, or Gran Torino.

I also watched both versions of Dune. The 2021 was very good and it ended just as things got interesting. But it was all setup. The 1984 was bizarre, wooden acting/ no charisma for Paul Atreides. It was like two separate movies jumbled together. Still would like to see the version the director wanted. I noticed Chani was played by Sean Young, but if i blinked i wouldn’t have noticed her because she is barely in the movie.

I did notice something i never noticed before though that Paul Atreides was ripped off for Anakin Skywalker, its even more apparent reading the novel. Especially the prequel version of Anakin being the chosen one/savior.

I find myself enjoying the 1984 adaptation more than the 2021 adaptation because David Lynch embraced the book’s weirdness, whilst Villeneuve removed any trace of it and made a half movie palatable for mainstream audiences.

At this point I feel like I will never see the Dune adaptation I envision unless I make it myself.

Finally watched Wonder Woman 1984.

Frankly I found it to be way better than the negative word-of-mouth, although I do agree with the criticism of Diana hijacking some random guy’s body and using it for her own selfish wish to be with Steve once again, that doesn’t fly in today’s world. Another thing I found hard to believe is that Kristen Wiig, or at least someone who looks like her, would go unnoticed, and I am also tired of the Hollywood cliché of spectacles somehow making a person unattractive.

Overall I enjoyed it.

I just watched A Whisker Away after a year and a half of it being out. As a lifelong Ghibli fan, I was very hyped. It was even better than what I was expecting. It was an emotional, creative, beautiful and comedic film with so much charm and memorable characters. It was basically everything I can ask for in an animated film. I can’t recommend it enough if you’re an animation fan.

I’m angry about the writing style of Spider Man No Way Home. It reeks of the lazy writing style called fuck it lets invalidate everything! Known offenders that use this are the Disney Sequels, Infinity War, Endgame and Spider Man No Way Home.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Jungle Cruise. It was just okay. It wasn’t the worst movie ever or the best. It was very meh.

The story was very unoriginal though. I didn’t like it nearly as much as the remakes for Jumanji.

No performer really stands out. But i liked Emily Blunt in it.

The movie Encanto is a visually stunning movie that has the message of how our gifts do not define us, instead we define our gifts.

Finally saw Tenet. Had to watch it again to better understand what was going on, but if you think too hard about the minutae of the film it might drive you insane.

Just watched Spider-Man 3 and it was way better than 2 and probably better than 1. Don’t know why it gets so much shit. I didn’t like 2 at all.

I agree with the fact that 3 is better than 1. The first film always felt the weakest to me. But I still like 2 best.

The film West Side Story (2021) is an excellent adaptation that tells the message that death only breeds sorrow and unbearable pain and loss.

The film Filmworker is truly an amazing documentary. As a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s work, the story was fascinating to me and I truly felt the hardships Leon Vitali went through during his time working with the director.

Ghostbusters Afterlife. It isn’t a bad movie about family, but its a bad Ghostbusters movie. I don’t know why i bother i should just stick with the first one. Every single sequel has been incredibly disappointing and i just keep setting myself up.

It was cool for 5 minutes when the original cast shows up and i smiled and had nostalgic feelings. But it was a waste of 20 dollars.

The kids all do a decent job, but i wanted Ghostbusters 3.

Watched Army of Darkness. Super Cheesy but also super fun. I haven’t had such a good time watching a movie in ages. Bruce Campbell is so good.

I watched All 4 Men in Black movies. Film 2 and 4 aren’t that bad and i honestly don’t understand why they are hated. And i also don’t get why people act like part 3 is the best. It isn’t that good. Tommy Lee Jones is barely in it. Brolin is overrated in this film.

Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders.

It was such a really good film. Heartwrenching in ways and a lot to contemplate in other ways. It’s very beautifully shot and told. It’s definitely a film that I feel will get better and better with further contemplation and rewatches. I love how it dealt with memory and how relationships between family and the ones we love aren’t always black and white. As well as the difficulties we put on those closest to us. And of course the little boy was so delightful. It was so unexpected to hear subtle Star Wars references in the film. Haha

Fun Fact: It was Kurt Cobain’s favourite film.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Just finished watching for the very first time the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes, starring Charlton Heston.

I know, I know. I’m 54 years late, but as the saying goes, better late than never. Damn good movie.

I watched Matrix Resurrections. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great. I liked Bugs played by Jessica Fenwick.

Quite an unnecessary sequel. But it isn’t as awful as some people have made out.

Worth a rental only.

The Saragossa Manuscript by Wojciech Has.

It’s a Polish surrealist fantasy film. It’s hard to get into as I’m not entirely sure I understand it as I’m quite a newbie to surrealism. It will definitely take repeat viewings I think as the first half of the film is mostly fluid but it gets more and more complex in the second half. It’s a story within a story of another story and another after that. It’s very beautifully made and very intriguing despite these things. The music in particular was very beautiful. It’s just a very difficult film to explain in concrete terms as it’s very abstract. I’d recommend though.

Fun Fact: It’s a favourite film of Jerry Garcia from Grateful Dead, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, and Luis Buñuel.
