Hi mate, hope you and your family are all having a lovely Christmas.
Ok so as promised I finally gave V2 a second viewing, I found it a big improvement over V1 bit there were things I still didn’t quite like.

(If you haven’t seen this edit yet but plan on watching please beware of spoilers for this edit)

The things I loved:

*Kylo’s presence when Rey’s training.

  • The scene of the Troopers landing in Mustafar. I thought it made the battle a bit more impactful by showing this.

  • The cut humour about the raid on Pasana.

  • The Force Healing of the Giant Worm. For me this one is like a catch 22, If we got to see force healing in the other movies then maybe it wouldn’t feel so forced. But then do we see Obiwan force heal Luke in A new hope🤷.

  • Rey not destroying Kylo’s ship on Pasana. Yep very good continuity catch, never really noticed this before lol.

  • Hux’s “I’m the Spy” line. This never really bothered me until a recent viewing.

  • The extended shots of Rey on the skimmer. Can’t remember seeing this in other versions.

  • Kylo on Corasant.
No reason why but just liked seeing this.

  • C3PO not getting his memory back. Hated the scene of him getting his memory restored, it made his sacrifice pointless.

  • Lando on the Falcon with Chewie before leaving for Exegol. Just like the extended shots of Rey on the Skimmer I don’t recall seeing this before.

  • Lando and Janna scene. Another scene I don’t recall seeing.

  • C3PO ending scene. Won’t go into details as I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone else but holy s@#t did you bring A tear to my eye.

Ok so now for the things I wasn’t such a huge fan of.

  • Leia heals Kylo.
I like the idea I really do think it’s an amazing idea but for me it doesn’t work VFX wise, reason being as with you other ST edits you have put it so much work and some really amazing ideas for me it feels because the VFX are not there it lets it down.

  • Kylo lives. as mentioned above, if the VFX were there maybe it just doesn’t fit for me personally and like before with all the work you have put in with these amazing edits it just let’s this down.

  • I feel the some of the scene’s at the beginning may need some rearranging. We see A star destroyer blow a planet up but don’t see Palpatine til later, similar with Kylo telling the first order commanders about Palpatine. Just feel these could use a little rearranging.

All in all very good work mate👍.

Thank you so much for this feedback, this, combined with your even more detailed notes in the DM is exactly what I needed. I will definitely be going through the two lists point by point to get this film to where I want it. At first glance, I agree with a lot of what you’ve written, and while this v2 was a huge improvement over v1, I still have some work to do to bring it to a v3 that I am fully happy with. We’ve made a lot of progress and the skeleton is there to be a great edit, but it’s only about 75% of what I want it to be right now.

I must see that edit. That sounds awesome. Leia heals Ben and Anakin kills Palpatine. Especially the new ending sounds mindblowing.

Update on this edit and trilogy as a whole can be found here.

If anyone still wants a link to this workprint and does not have one, please let me know. I need to get some more eyeballs on this current version in order to start preparing for final release. There’s still a lot of work to be done here, so this is just an Alpha version if you are interested in seeing and suggesting. Thanks!

EDIT: I just noticed I never uploaded my last Alpha cut online and only had a local render, so I’ll be uploading that tonight for people to see the last Alpha cut I had made.

I just uploaded V2 of this edit. V2 just fixes a few bugs with the crawl and a couple scenes throughout the movie. Nothing major, just touch-ups to fix the initial mistakes.

Since I now have V2’s of each edit, it might be a while before I go to V3’s and final releases of everything. I am personally waiting on other people to finish their edits to see if I am inspired by some of their ideas or scenes to add into mine. I am most looking forward to the Movies Remastered Episode 9 edit (release sometime Q 2/3 2021?), and the Fixing Disney Star Wars trilogy (releasing edits throughout 2021 and 2022). As those come out I will integrate what I feel works well with my Legends Trilogy and upload versions until I feel my work is 100% complete.

As far as future projects go, I don’t have any plans to release edits of any other Star Wars movies. I do have personal edits of Solo, Rogue One, Return of the Jedi, and small edits on some Clone Wars/Rebels episodes, but I don’t feel like my changes are significant enough to warrant writing about and releasing. They are just part of my personal way of watching the Star Wars saga. So until Disney releases something new I will only be slowly updating the Legends Trilogy.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the project and written reviews. I’ve really enjoyed the interactions and I hope my work will remain something for future fans to continue discovering so they can experience the ST in a new light.

Can I have a link to the workprint?

I’ve finally gotten to see your Episode 9 and I’m impressed just as I was with the other edits, your version is once again my favorite version now. I loved Palpatine’s red lighting, I got chills during Rey and Kylo’s duel, I adored the rescore during Rey’s final stand, and I love that you kept Ben Solo alive. You changed up the ending so it’s not a retread of what ROTJ was, and I aplaud you. However, some things could be improved, like maybe you could move the Galaxy fleet scene up a bit, perhaps right before Rey’s final stand, then have the part where they pick up Finn after it? Some things like Ben’s wound and the Skywalker’s sabers on Tatooine are noticeably zoomed in but I don’t know how you’d get around that. Speaking of Ben on Tatooine, It seems like he jumps to lightspeed twice, or maybe I’m looking at it the wrong way? Overall great edit with some great potential. P.S If you want to give Finn a bigger role in the finale you could use something like this https://www.reddit.com/r/fanedits/comments/uxyafk/finns_moment_tros/.

You know, this project does raise a good point about the Sequel Trilogy as a whole.

For a story that’s all about bringing balance to the Force, these films sure have a pisspoor way of conveying that ideal. In the eyes of Disney, it’s either one or the other, and rather than forgoing both in favour of a balanced galaxy, they chose the light. Talk about contradicting the original saga!

Thanks for the kind words. I am still going to take another crack at the ending as a whole, but yes I am definitely striving to NOT have this be a repeat of RotJ “the Light beats the Dark and Palpatine dies!” I’m not sure if my initial concept is the right solution, but I’m on the right path at least.

However, some things could be improved, like maybe you could move the Galaxy fleet scene up a bit, perhaps right before Rey’s final stand, then have the part where they pick up Finn after it?

What I was trying to convey was that the space battle is a mere representation of the events happening between the force on the ground. When Palpatine is beating Rey, the Resistance is losing, when Rey is aided by the Jedi, the Resistance begins winning etc. I found it very off putting in theatrical when the space battle is preceding the events happening in the force battle. It was completely backwards thematically.

Some things like Ben’s wound and the Skywalker’s sabers on Tatooine are noticeably zoomed in but I don’t know how you’d get around that.

Yeah, it’s not too great and was more of a concept sketch to see if the story point works. I think it was decent as a story idea but the execution is too distracting so I’ll be taking another shot at reworking the whole concept.

Speaking of Ben on Tatooine, It seems like he jumps to lightspeed twice, or maybe I’m looking at it the wrong way?

Ha, you might be right there. I need to remove the first shot of the Falcon on the Tatooine horizon, there’s no way the ship should be jumping at that speed while in the gravity well of the planet anyways.

Overall great edit with some great potential. P.S If you want to give Finn a bigger role in the finale you could use something like this https://www.reddit.com/r/fanedits/comments/uxyafk/finns_moment_tros/.

Thanks, I still have a ton of work to do here and it’ll be some time before I get to it. But I think some of the ideas turned out well at least. I’ll review those Finn lines and see if anything can be used throughout the film, but sadly they didn’t create enough content for Finn to stay a compelling character outside of TFA so I don’t have much hope in redeeming something epic for him.

Yes, I couldn’t agree more. I mean… They got J.J. Abrams so I don’t expect him to understand the intricacies of the themes of the force, but the depiction of it in his film was outright detrimental to the entire concept of balance in the force and turns the entire Star Wars lore into an incoherent mess which was why Rise of Skywalker is my least favorite Star Wars film. I am attempting to maintain the actual behavior of the living force through my edit.

If we look at the trilogies and how they conclude:

PT: Ends with the Dark winning
OT: Ends with the Light winning
ST: Ends with… the Light winning… again

Like if you were going for any sort of balance or pattern, at the absolute minimum you should have the Dark winning again. That’s partially why the trilogy felt so empty to me… there’s no greater meaning or addition to the character of the force. It’s just a rehash of the exact same conclusion of the last trilogy, even against the same exact villain haha. It was depressing to behold. The ST should have ended with balance, neither the light or dark winning, but the force users learning to co-exist.

Heya Acbagel. Not sure if u ever saw my battle of exegol enhanced thread. I was wondering if u have any way of looking to enhance battle of exegol in your next workprint. Particularly my capital ship scene. Sorry I’m not trying to be an attention seeker. It’s more of I like the scene, but im looking for ways to seamlessly incorporate it into TROS, so looking for ideas to toss around.

This is the best TROS edit ever when I watch tros I will watch this edit but here are some great things and some things you could fix before the final cut.

  1. The rescoring was perfect but I didn’t like the rescoring in the final battle felt the trailer music was a bit too corny

  2. There is a continuity error in that kylo gets his helmet repaired before he lands on Mustafar so maybe put the Mustafar scene after he gets his helmet fixed

  3. I Loved lukes voice in the cave

  4. Rey killing her parents was great but that shot of the ship crashing feels out of place

  5. Another continuity error is the that when kylo turns around to see Han Rey stabbed in the stomach when she was facing his back

  6. Another excellent feature is kylo on Coruscant but the edges of his face are rough you might need to smoothen it

  7. The final Battle left me speechless the one we deserved Thank you only thing if you can I know it is very difficult because I tried once but it failed is try to replace Rey’s body with Anakin’s at that second if you can’t I understand you already did enough

  8. Luke at the end felt very cringed maybe put all the force ghosts in the end

This is great I know it is difficult but you have done an excellent job you said you have only finished 40% but you could after some roughing the edges I believe call this 100% unless you want to change more

And last I have seen many fan edits of TROS No Palpatine, anti cringe, Ascendent, and many more but yours is the best easily because it make a bad unwatchable movie to a good entertaining movie

Hey! Sorry I’m responding a month late, I’ve gotten away from my Sequel Trilogy project to work on other things for a while. I did check out your Exegol thread just now, some very cool ideas there! I’m not sure if it makes much sense in my edit to add more to that space battle as of now, as unfortunately I find that whole battle to be pretty lifeless as a whole. It’s so generic as in “fly around a giant empty gray atmosphere and shoot at millions of star destroyers with no gameplan or strategy whatsoever”. It’s just not a very intuitively setup battle to begin with, and I find the content on the ground of Exegol to be much more engaging so at this point I wouldn’t want to extend that space battle any longer than it already is. When I start work on this film again in the future I’ll reconsider though! Thanks for the comment

Wow! Thanks for saying that. Very nice to hear and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I appreciate you taking the time to review too.

  1. The rescoring was perfect but I didn’t like the rescoring in the final battle felt the trailer music was a bit too corny

Understood! Though, it is all of the Jedi force ghosts appearing out of nowhere to fight Palpatine round 3 so I think it’s all a bit corny to begin with haha. I’d say that track fits well in this case

  1. There is a continuity error in that kylo gets his helmet repaired before he lands on Mustafar so maybe put the Mustafar scene after he gets his helmet fixed

I did notice that in creating the film but I think just because he rebuilds his helmet doesn’t necessarily mean he has to wear it in every single scene afterwards. In TLJ, Kylo “destroys” his identity in only being a masked figure, so I think it works to have it on and off throughout the film. I wouldn’t call it a continuity error just because he doesn’t wear it in 100% of the scenes after he rebuilds it.

  1. I Loved lukes voice in the cave

Thanks! I thought it helped Luke be to Rey what Obi-wan was to Luke. Nice to pay homage like that

  1. Rey killing her parents was great but that shot of the ship crashing feels out of place

I somewhat agree here, the ship exploding is kind sudden for them to die like that but I don’t have a better idea off the top of my head on how to communicate their death. Can you think of any other way a child would kill her parents?

  1. Another continuity error is the that when kylo turns around to see Han Rey stabbed in the stomach when she was facing his back

I was looking for what you’re saying here but I don’t see it. I think Kylo is turning as Rey is grabbing the saber. I watched it frame by frame and didn’t see anything here that looked wrong.

  1. Another excellent feature is kylo on Coruscant but the edges of his face are rough you might need to smoothen it

Thanks! Yeah some of the VFX work here wasn’t fully developed. Will definitely take another pass on scenes like this in the future.

  1. The final Battle left me speechless the one we deserved Thank you only thing if you can I know it is very difficult because I tried once but it failed is try to replace Rey’s body with Anakin’s at that second if you can’t I understand you already did enough

Awesome, that’s the goal! That is a good idea and I might try it. Seems kind of difficult to pull off but I’ll see if it’s possible for me.

  1. Luke at the end felt very cringed maybe put all the force ghosts in the end

What do you mean he “felt very cringed”? Not sure what you mean by that. What specifically was wrong?

This is great I know it is difficult but you have done an excellent job you said you have only finished 40% but you could after some roughing the edges I believe call this 100% unless you want to change more

And last I have seen many fan edits of TROS No Palpatine, anti cringe, Ascendent, and many more but yours is the best easily because it make a bad unwatchable movie to a good entertaining movie

Thanks again for the review! Very helpful. Yes, I would barely even say this is halfway done and a lot will change before final release next year. Working on other projects in the meantime but I’ll loop back here eventually. Glad you enjoyed, may the force be with you!

Sorry for me taking so long to post this. I was out by the time I ended this movie and so I couldn’t do it, but that aside, I’m very happy to how this movie turned out and think you did a good job. You made a lot of things about this movie a lot better, and trust me, there were lots of problems.

First thing’s first I love about this change is that Ben lives instead of Rey. Rey living honestly made her a lot more hated character because she never faced any struggles nor were arc satisfying in the slightest. Ben had an actual established arc; Luke, Leia, and Han died trying to redeem him, and while it isn’t a complete 180, at least we have a more satisfying conclusion. His character opened up a more possible chance for the future where we see him and Finn having a possible meeting in a near future while also serving as a vigilante who serves no side as both the light and dark is balanced within him. I’m finna headcanon in one of his travels that Ben found a young girl whose parents both died and was a baby, and he took her in assuming the role as father figure, and naming her Rey. There is so many opportunities with Ben now being an haunted individual who serves balance of the Force. The Jedi and the Sith died, and now Ben could possibly start a New Order, no Jedi, no Sith, but an Order that serves the Force and the Force alone.

And now about that ending, that was amazing! Going through all the adventures by Threepio’s memories is an amazing send off as we see a proper ending to the trilogy and more respectful! Luke is my second favorite Star Wars character behind Anakin Skywalker, and I’m glad to see him receiving appreciation from a writer that actually respects him and the character that he is. You made him even better in this trilogy while keeping the main message of what he is intact.

Hux’s death still makes me frown because I wish he had a more respectful one such as dying on a Star Destroyer, but at the very least, his death seems to be more out of failure to capture the crew instead of the spy part. That fixes up his death slightly.

That said; I do have a minor nitpick which is out of your hands. I wish Finn had a more active role such as getting his chance to lead a Stormtrooper Rebellion in a more active. That’s more of a my problem since I love that part about the original Episode 9, Duel of the Fates, and is again out of your hands. That said, you removed him as a joke and made him a better character. He should have honestly been a deeper darker character who had a troubled background but slowly pushing back then. I wish they used his character in a correct format, but at least you removed all that made him a joke and made him more better. He deserved more respect than they had gave him especially since the potential they gave him, but at least you have the opportunity of Ben training him in the Force in the nearby future. Ben would undoubtedly feel an obligation to protect Finn and Poe because they had been the closest people to Rey that she had left as well as Chewie because he had once served his father. R2 and Threepio would become Ben’s Droids, I imagine, because as horrible as his deeds, he still is a Skywalker who has both Anakin and Padmé’s blood within him and their children.

I have mixed feelings about Leia healing Ben but it’s better than Rey healing him. I also do wonder have you ever considered having Anakin appeared to Ben when he was about to throw his lightsaber? I love that scene where Ben reflect on his own, but feel like Anakin should appear at that moment to talk to his grandson. Him just throwing the lightsaber… doesn’t feel right.

Your movie actually respected Anakin’s legacy, and even though I always thought Plagueis should have been the one who returned instead of Palpatine, you even made his return more satisfying as it’s referenced Anakin used Rey as a vessel to put down his tormentor for decades down once and for all. Great movie! And this is now Canon for me! 😃

Well it’s only been like 8 months since I last responded in this thread, but someone recently posted here and I noticed I never replied to your last comment. Thanks for taking the time to write out your experience with my edit!

Thanks for the kind words. I really do think I hit the right notes on the character arcs here. The only thing that remains is to touch up some of the shots to make it more “theatrical” since I changed so much. It’s only a workprint to make sure the story flowed well, and I think it does after reading so many reviews, but I’d love to add more here thematically.

Wonderful! That was a fun ending for me as well, and my hope was that it makes every Star Wars fan feel something nice 😃

Hux’s death still makes me frown because I wish he had a more respectful one such as dying on a Star Destroyer, but at the very least, his death seems to be more out of failure to capture the crew instead of the spy part. That fixes up his death slightly.

Definitely agree here, I’m open to any and all suggestions about how to give Hux a more fitting send off. He was so abruptly and ridiculously deleted out of the storyline though that it’s extremely difficult to transform his death in any meaningful way. The best I could do at first is get rid of the ridiculousness, but still the abruptness remains.

R2 and Threepio would become Ben’s Droids, I imagine, because as horrible as his deeds, he still is a Skywalker who has both Anakin and Padmé’s blood within him and their children.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything here as well. Finn was treated poorly as a character top to bottom. I thought he had by far the most interesting storyline coming out of TFA, but they completely squandered his character arc to force him into a comic relief role instead of giving a proper ex-stormtrooper turned Jedi. I will stand on this mountain of salt until the day I die.

I’m not 100% settled on that decision for my final cut of this film. Like you said, it’s better than Rey healing him (which is one of my worst scenes in Star Wars due to the destruction of thousands of years of established force lore), but I’m not convinced it works well enough with Leia doing it either. I’m half at a loss here though as Kylo has a gaping hole in his gut and still needs to make it to the final Act of the movie lol… Yes, I’ve seen many attempts at Anakin communicating to Ben in this scene, and if done originally by Lucasfilm I think it would’ve worked well as a storytelling device, but I haven’t found a way to do any of it in a believable way on my own.

Respecting the legacy of the Chosen One was priority #1 for me here. It’s the main reason I disliked the original movie. I think my edit does a much betterjob of not throwing Anakin in the trash. I was also on Team SnokeIsPlagueis (until JJ Abrams said he didn’t know who Plagueis was…), but alas Disney is going to Disney. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and that’s quite an honor to have my edit be added into your personal Canon. I hope to improve this film even more in the next year and look forward to sharing that with you again in the future.

I think that Leia dying of healing ben is the best case scenario without reshooting the scene

But if we had infinite financial resources

Floating palpatine is a Hologram projected from a Holocron, not a physical clone, but he wants a physical vessel through possession

Rey leaves Kylo to die, Leia heals Kylo, rey goes to ach-too, Kylo tries to confront the emperor and kills the KOR, Kylo is captured by the imperial guards, palpatine ties Kylo up and tempts Rey to kill him, Rey spares Kylo, Kylo and Rey are force drained by the Holocron and becomes a physical person

Palpatine floating in the air due to a harness gave me the hologram idea

Wish these guys go faster
