Best Horror Movies?

Author
Time
Seeing as how it's the month of October, I thought I'd start a list of favorite and least favorite horror themed films. Personally I enjoy John Carpenter's The Fog, John Carpenter's remake of The Thing, Sam Raimi's Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn, and David Cronenberg's 1986 remake of The Fly.

Anymore?
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

I prefer the first Evil Dead over the second one. Of course the best slasher movie is Friday the 13th in my book, all but that dumb space one. Best zombie movie is going to be the orginal Dawn of the Dead. For a newer horror movie I would go with JU-ON.

I really liked Dead-Alive. A bit silly, but very, VERY gory.

the best are the classic Dracula staring Bela Lugosi, Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff. Best horror movies ever made bar none. (imho)

I have just been watching it, I was watching the Ridley Scott cut with the coccon scene added, and prefer that version,

As for my horror film I will watch most things from Hammer, Friday 13th to the Italian stuff like Cannibal Holocaust. except the crap that is produced today though I did not think House of Wax was too bad except for Paris Hilton, and is still not a patch on the original,

John Carpenter used to be master with things like The Fog Halloween and The Thing but hasnt produced anything half decent since Prince of Darkness/They Live,

Think Romero is up there with the best with Cronenberg now...

Yes iit is good, has a nice bit of gore, and a good story, I feel it is a re-make that in my that is better than the original.

Not that the original is bad - it's just from a different era, but yes, I also prefer Cronenberg's version.

If you want gore, go for Peter Jackson's "Brain Dead" (aka "Dead Alive").

If you want the suspense and psychological horror, go for "Psycho" (1960).

If want to go campy AND classic, go for the old Hammer movies.

Avoid crappy teenage-killing horror films LIKE THE PLAGUE!
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

My friend and I are on the school newspaper staff, and we always write some type of movie review. Since we're gearing up for the Halloween issue this month, we're going to do horror movies this time around.

My article shall be "Awesome Horror Movies You've Never Heard Of"

My friend's article shall be "Crappy Horror Movies You Have Heard Of"

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of doing "Evil Dead" or "Dead Alive" for my article (mind you, this article is aimed at pop-culture-slave high school students, none of them will have heard of those movies.)

My friend is thinking of doing "The Ring", "The Grudge", or the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake.

At least show the Japanese "Ringu". It's much better than the American version.

Someday, I'll get around to watching the Japanese version of "The Grudge". I accidentally rented the Japanese version of Dark Water, and found it to be very interesting, with good spooky parts. I want to see how good a job Jennifer Connelly does in the American version (she's my girlfriend, but she doesn't know it yet. )

I don't know, most horror movies don't scare me. Like the Rings, or Grudge...I was laughing. For a really good horror movie though, check out "Session 9."

Was "Saw" any good? Seems to be just going for a grossout gore factor, nothing really scary about it...I could be wrong.
Which is the more foolish, the fool (the OT) or the fool who follows (the PT)?

saw was overrated. WAY overrated. the premise was original, as were the flashback scenes, but that was it.

Tell him to do Don't Look in the Basement...if he doesn't know of that one, then he fails miserably.

I think he's aiming for popular-yet-crappy movies. Like Amityville Horror, for instance.

Has anyone seen the 1979 remake of "Nosferatu"? The 1922 original is amazing, and I was wondering if the remake was worth going out of my way to pick up.

I didn't know the word original existed in Hollywood anymore.
