Mando EP3: A New Path (A Book of Boba Fett Edit) [RELEASED]

 (Edited)

Here is my edit of the Book of Boba Fett. With Din Djarin’s story being a surprise feature and the Boba portions being a bit disappointing with a lot of flashback scenes, I have decided to edit this as episode 3 of the Mandalorian. Headlines are:

  1. Din and Boba’s present stories run side-by-side for the first half and merge on Tatooine for the final
    battle.
  2. The Luke/Grogu/Ahsoka scenes are moved to the end of the movie and Grogu no longer travels to Tatooine.
  3. The flashbacks are largely removed. The only parts that remain are edited versions of the sarlaac escape,
Tusken Gaffi training, Pikes negotiation and Tusken massacre.
  4. The mods are heavily edited with the Krrsantan palace infiltration and capture of the majordomo being
completely removed. The Majordomo is not seen again after the first meeting between Boba and the Mayor.
  5. Cuts and edits have been made to strengthen Boba’s character to have him more in control of the plot.

I have also made a new logo for the series which better fits with the man Star Wars logo:

I’m very excited for this after your amazing Mando movies! The crawl looks great! And it’s awesome to see the after credit scene stay!

I know there’s been a lot of talks about all the Post-OT shows pulling a Marvel and all lining up for a big conclusion series that wraps all the story lines together.

Just a hypothetical idea for the future… Do you plan to combined all the series together into a series of movies in the future? You say that you will add some of the Book of Boba Fett flashbacks to the Mando movie edits, but what if we get flashback scenes of how Boba got to where he was when we see him in Season 2 of Mando? Or say we get scenes from the Ashoka series showing how she got to the planet we see her on in Mando season 2.

It’d be really cool if by the end of all these Post-OT series, you were able to do a series of movies with all the characters story lines running along side each other.

Obviously this whole idea is a long ways away and also depends on just how well the shows could mesh but it could be something really awesome if it worked out. Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

I wonder if there will be enough flashback material to make two films: Post-RotJ and Post-Mandalorian. A snippet of the relevant Return of the Jedi scenes could be used as a prologue to the first one.

I think it might be a good idea to treat your fanedits like a Cinematic Universe, of which this is the third installment. If you plan on making movie edits of all these upcoming shows, they’re going to have about that level of interconnectedness.

Looks like we will be getting a lot of flashback material, however, rather than make a movie out of it I’ll probably scale it back as much as I can. My first cut has the opening logos, crawl and first episode at just 20 mins. I’ve cut a lot of the Tusken stuff but I have a feeling that some scenes will need to go back in.
I’m also hoping that the later flashback scenes involving Fennec can be cut into episodes 1 and 2 of the Mandalorian.

After each post ROTJ TV season I’ll return to the preceding movies and adjust them to produce a continuity. I did it with Mando 1 after the second season was released to put the Tatooine scenes back in. Once BOBF is finished I’ll go back to Mando 1 and Mando 2.

That’s the plan. I’ll see how this season pans out before deciding on an overarching “Title”. I may just stick to The Mandalorian and have this as episode 3.

If there is enough backstory content over the course of the series you could possibly do a movie set before the mandalorian starting with boba escaping the sarlac and what happened up to leaving tattooine and also A movie set direction after season 2 of the mandalorian.
All depends on the amount of content tho.

So, this series really isn’t what I was expecting. For the 2 episodes so far we have 25 mins of “present” and 65 mins of “flashback”.

Overall I’m really liking it, but some of the Tusken scenes like the Episode 1 creature battle and the train heist didn’t sit too well with me.

My current feeling is to keep this movie to just the “present” and add in some very brief flashback scenes. However, the Tusken story is clearly going to tie into the “present” story, and it’ll be a question of whether brief flashback scenes will be enough to keep that eventual payoff. Time will tell…

If the amount of time dedicated to the flashbacks continue you could almost make a standalone origin movie for Boba Fett. Like a prequel to the Mandalorian and than a separate Boba Fett movie for present day.

I agree on this notion. In the mission to condense these shows into movies, letting each plot standalone will prevent either plot feeling rushed or neglected. Because not gonna lie, E02 was something special. The audience then would be able to chose whether they want to watch the ‘Boba Fett’ origin story or not.

This show is screaming for a fan edit like this. So far, I think too many scenes could be deleted and others, reordered.

After watch Star Wars Theory review of the episode 3, he gave an idea that I think could work for this edit:

(SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 3 AHEAD!):

SWT commented that the BK fight scene with Boba could be placed in the first episode instead of the third. After all, Boba’s back was broken in this fight. In this episode, we don’t see the repercussions of this fact, since Boba walks normally after the fight, which is a bit strange. Reordering the scene to the beginning of BOBF would make his weakness so much understandable in the story of the series, since he was so badass in Mandalorian and in BOBF, he doesn’t (at least for now). Even the bacta tank scenes would make more sense, if the bacta was used for curing his back instead of his skin (since in the Mandalorian series Boba’s health was perfectly fine).

A second suggestion for this episode: if you maintain the chase sequence, I think it could be good to cut the bikers pursuing the mayor’s assistant, because the scene itself is really embarrassing. Just putting Boba reaching the assistant through the jetpack in the end could resolve, I think (and would give Boba more attitude).

Overall, looking forward for this edit. BOBF seems to fit more in the movie format than the series format.

For the love of God, please remove the space Vespa chase from this edit…that was hard to watch. It was like a cross over of Power Rangers, Spy Kids and Star Wars. It was too colourful, cheesy and just didn’t belong in Star Wars or at least Tatooine.

There’s certainly a lot that deserves to be cut! I might end up with a movie less than 2 hours long!

If the next 4 episodes are really “all killer no filler” Boba (fingers crossed), I could see the possibility of an edit that jumps straight into the action, skipping most of the mundane setup from the first 3 episodes…

It kinda sucks that the present day story is so bland. I really like the flashbacks and would be interested in an edit that just turns that into a movie.

Yeah, the only good thing abut the speeder chase is that it can be cut completely without losing anything from the story. You can transition straight from the Hutt/Rancor scene to the Skyliner arriving.

My rough cut of the first 3 episodes is still only 53 mins with some brief flashbacks to be added, which shows just how little of these episodes progresses the story. Total time of the flashbacks is 71 mins, so there is still a chance there will be enough material to warrant a separate movie.

This feels like a movie script turned into a TV show which is probably exactly what happened. Cut out all the fluff, I think we’ll have a decent Star Wars movie.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see how you handle this one. I like the flashbacks, but the present day stuff seems bafflingly underwritten. I’m not really sure what Boba’s motivations are. Moreover, it doesn’t even feel like him based on what we’ve seen in the canon comics and small snippets in TCW and the OT. A character developing is great, but Boba seems to have popped out of the sarlacc fully developed already. He seems pretty chill and nice even before he joins the Tuskens. There’s not even a hint of his former self.

I’m also surprised at how unintelligent he seems in the present day scenes. I laughed when the Mayor’s aide snuck out and Boba was like “he locked the doors!” Hopefully, the upcoming episodes will give you something to use to clarify his motives in a film edit.

“We Will Watch Your Career With Great Interest.” This series definetly is crying out to have a fan edit made of it. I am not really feeling through three epiodes, that the comment of “all killer no filler” from Robert Rodriguez has aged well. The flashback scenes have been impressive, but the post Mando Season Two scenes have left a lot to be desired. I am hoping the next few episodes ramp up the action and expand on Boba’s motivation for wanting to be a crime lord in more detail.

If not, a fan edit like yours may be my go to method for watching this story in the future. Loved the opening video with custom crawl you shared by the way. May the force be with you and keep up the good work!

Well, episode 4 brings another 30 minute flashback. The material does seem to bring an end to the flashback story and I think it would work well as a conclusion to a standalone film.

I think a standalone Boba Fett film containing the flashbacks from episodes 1-4 and maybe some stuff from Mando season 2 would be great.

The key to this edit might be reducing boba fett’s dialogue as it seems out of character for him to be as verbose as he is in the show. I just read an interview with Temuera Morrison who said himself that he didn’t think it was consistent with previous appearances and had asked Jon Favreau to cut his dialogue down
