It was a great watch. Maybe some voice-overs were superfluous (the baton stormtrooper; Han and Kylo on the bridge), but otherwise flawless for me.

Watching this movie again after so many years made me reassured that JJ Abrams is a cinematic genius, one of the great visual storytellers of our time. If he worked together with someome who had a vision of a story they actually wanted to tell, it could have been a great sequel trilogy.

Whenever he relents from the pace and allows himself a bit of time for world-building, it’s captivating. Rey’s daily routine on Jakku is still the best sequence of the ST for me. And it’s greatly helped by this edit. Removing Unkar Plott’s dialogue allows the film to tell Rey’s backstory without a single line of dialogue. Brilliant.

The dialogue, the humor, the sense of adventure work great in this film and the little trims here and there help that tremendously.
