What's the most "hypnotic" movie you've seen?

By hypnotic, I mean a movie that, from the moment it started, just drew you in and made you want to keep watching and see what was going to happen in one way or another.

For me, the movie that fits this description is Hitchcock’s Vertigo.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

Once Upon a Time in the West, or Lawrence of Arabia. 2001.

Modern film Batman Begins, Man of Steel, Interstellar, Inception.

Animated would be Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Princess Mononoke.

Live action foreign film probably Seven Samurai, or Yojimbo. Any Kurosawa really.

Actually basically any Ghibli film does. (Sorry about the multiple posts, it was a mistake).

I’ve also come to the conclusion that Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (very underrated!) also fits my description of “hypnotic”.

The LOTR Trilogy is another good example. Every time I watch Fellowship, I always want to watch the whole trilogy.

Star Wars.

I thought you meant another kind of hypnotic where the film itself feels like something totally different. For example 2001 fits that description. Others that come to mind are Apocalypse. Now and The Neon Demon, which I don’t really like as movies but they feel like some hypnotic fever dream. They don’t fit to the OP’s descripition of wanting to know what happens next for me but just because they’re just made in some special way.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Star Wars is the only picture i’ve ever seen a standing ovation at the end with people cheering and clapping. And that was for the 97 version. Would love to see what kind of response a showing of the original version would get.

Star Wars being hypnotic for me that would be seeing Return of the Jedi i was like 5 or 6 when i saw it.

That scene on the skiff where Luke salutes Artoo and his lightsaber is launched to him. Had me enraptured.

At the time i hadn’t seen a lot of movies and never saw pirate movies, or swashbucklers so it was quite exciting.

When Luke strides into Jabba’s in black cloak like he owns the place, i thought that was cool. As i did the hologram to Jabba scene. And the death star battle at the END and Throne room confrontation.

As for Indiana Jones, Raiders gets me every single time it hooks me in from the opening.

Stalker
Mirror
Andrei Rublev
The Red Shoes
Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind

Each for different reasons but each teleported me in hypnotic ways.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas
