I have all the time in the world yet nothing to do with it. I feel completely aimless.

Do you have nothing to do or do you just not feel like doing anything?

I get annoyed when people say ‘modern movies suck’ or something along that line, especially critics making videos with that in a title. It’s such a bad faith, blanket statement. I share the concern that the box office is so dominated by familiar brands, but there are loads of original (and great) movies being made if you only look for them. People who argue the quality of storytelling has dropped almost always just cherry pick classics from the 60s, 70s, 80s etc and conveniently ignore that comic book movies or franchise films coming out on top is nothing new - movies like The Shining and Blade Runner were both box office flops, and franchise entries like Batman Forever made twice as much money as both of them put together. But I guess it’s cool to complain about ‘these days’ and show how much smarter you are than everyone else.

I’m not one to complain, but I made a good looking Empire Strikes Back restoration and one person replied like a week ago. Some guy releases an edit he didn’t even makes and everyone is all over it.

That’s frustrating. But you also have tough competition. People like Harmy have already made very good colour grades and people tend not to like the artificial bluish tint that wasn’t in the original. I feel for you though. It’s tough to put a lot of work into something and not have it appreciated.

That’s tough. I find that I tend to feel more motivated once I actually force myself to start something. Maybe try keeping a consistent sleep schedule and getting up early to work on learning something new, like a hobby or a language. Often, once you start doing something like that, you feel a sense of accomplishment that keeps you motivated to continue. Getting started can be tough though.

And if you don’t mind me saying this, for the sake of being fully honest about what I think part of your problem is, I truly believe we are all ultimately made for God, which means that we can never find complete fulfillment without Him. At least that’s my own experience and that of the people I know.

You do have a point in that the absence of religion in modern society has left us with a gaping hole we struggle to fill.

I’ve just had the most miserable weekend. Three days off and I’ve done nothing with them because I have nothing to do. Then of course at the end I see something that reminds me of how much I’d love to make another film, but I’m still stifled for ideas, let alone ones within my budget, and all my precious attempts were too ambitious and visually stumbled over their own feet resulting in a distinctly unprofessional finished product. So far all I can think of is a guy going back in time to prevent his own past mistake. It’s not much but it’s a start. I’m still lacking that passion though. Then again, I lack passion for any project at all nowadays and it’s what’s been killing me.

I miss when life had a sense of mystery. Now I feel like I know everything (obviously not literally) and whatever I don’t know is just a quick search away. There’s something different about being a kid. The world seems wider and brighter. Now it feels so small and dark.

My laptop has been shedding silica gel all semester and now one bead finally got stuck in the headphone jack, so I can’t listen to the audiobook I need for class, and when I try installing it on my phone it says my Audible library is empty. Honestly, fuck Audible. I’ve been very underwhelmed by their service. They charge you a membership fee like it were a streaming service but only let you have one book per month. What a fucking scam.

Finally got banned from a Discord server I’d been on for years. They grew tired of my wrongthink. Why are woke people so mean?

You’d think people who preach tolerance would be tolerant, but alas…

If you’re being mean to a group then you get what you deserve. Racism gets you cast out. Sexism gets you cast out. Misogynistic views get you tossed out.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

I wasn’t being mean to any group. They were being mean to me and I didn’t bail when I had the chance, though I did try. I guess next time I’ll just have to try hard. No use fighting a losing battle. You only dig a deeper grave.

“Being mean” is construed incredibly broadly. Questioning people’s ideologies is now considered intolerance to the point that those who consider themselves woke are rarely aware of why the so-called bigots actually believe what they do.

It’s true that there are very real problems with racism, sexism, and homophobia, but the problem is that the approach to these issues is incredibly one-sided. For instance, it used to be politically correct to say that you “don’t see race”. Now, anyone who says that immediately experiences the ire of those who “know better”, regardless of the sentiments behind the statement. They don’t even get a chance to explain themselves before they get shut down and labelled a racist.

Obviously, not everyone is like that, and it’s a two-way street–there are plenty of actual bigots, which is why non-bigots get the label in the first place. But it’s not any less frustrating that those of us with non-politically correct views are slotted into a very narrow box and not listened to.

Not of intolerance. Yeah it sounds contradictory, but it’s true.

Of course, I’m not claiming to know what Ani’s “wrongthink” actually was, so no judgement here.

They can believe whatever they want, but it’s when they start forcing to conform to their beliefs it becomes a problem.

Based off the story you told, it sounds like you were in the right. But I do not believe for one second that you were telling the whole story. Especially based off of your history on this issue, there is no way in hell that you were simply “wrongthinking” and got banned over it.

Again, what is construed is intolerance is often not intolerance, just a difference in views.

My side of the story is this: I was banned for insisting I am not gay for being attracted to someone who is physically female. They said I dated a boy because they identified as a boy but the truth is way more complicated than that. Both of us understood that at the time but everyone else refused to and just called me gay, and so now they dug up that old fossil of an argument and framed it as me attacking their woke religion. I use their pronouns and their names and everything but they’re never happy. Ffs I have to draw the line somewhere, and that somewhere is where it stops being about letting them exist and starts being about not letting me exist. I have never misgendered anyone (at least not on purpose, accidents happen) or tried to attack their gender identity, but they keep attacking me. When I was dating this person we were both trying to make the impossible work since I wanted to date a girl and they wanted to a boy. We eventually broke up over it, which was the smart thing to do, but the point remains that I respected his identity but I was never in love with a boy.

Now what remains to be seen is if you guys get mad at me over the same thing and ban me so I can go wallow in misery alone instead of actually providing moral support to soul in dire need. I’m taking a great risk by telling you the whole truth and not just easily defensible fragments of it. Don’t make me regret it by banning me. You guys mean so much to me. And unlike that server you don’t have a track record of continuously bullying me. You’re respectful people.

Author
Time

I highly doubt you’d be banned for that.

But yeah, that not only sucks, it’s just plain stupid. In a world where everyone’s self identity is paramount, it’s unbelievable that your own identification of your sexuality is deemed wrong because of an incongruity with someone else’s self-identification. (Even if your perception of why you were banned is inaccurate, it’s still dumb that anyone would insist you’re gay based on someone’s non-physical gender identity.)

They literally took “I never dated a boy” as transphobia. There’s just no winning with these people.
