My personal Canon consists of all the major works from the old Expanded Universe, with the exception of The Clone Wars, The Force Unleashed II, Dark Empire II and III, the Crimson Empire Trilogy, and the post-NJO novels.

I don’t have anything against The Clone Wars or Disney’s new Canon. I actually enjoy The Clone Wars, and there are a few stories from Disney’s Canon that I really like, such as Rogue One and its two prequel novels, Catalyst and Rebel Rising. But for my personal Canon, I stick with the old Expanded Universe because, to me, it’s the most consistent and enjoyable continuity.

I do like the Prequel Trilogy, but the only films I include in my personal Canon are the three Original Trilogy movies. I don’t count the Prequels as films in my Canon; instead, I follow their story through the novelizations.

I think the story told in the Prequels is genuinely excellent, but I also believe that three movies alone can’t fully capture it. The story is too complex to fit into just three films. Movies have strict time limits, usually around two to two and a half hours, and that’s simply not enough to give the story the space it needs. A film can only show so much, which means a lot of the depth of the characters, their motivations, and the events around them has to be condensed or left out. The novelizations don’t have this limitation. They can take the time to explore every detail, delve into the characters’ thoughts, and follow the story wherever it needs to go. That’s why the Prequel story works much better in its novel form and why I include it in my personal Canon that way.

So basically, my personal Canon can be visualized as a straight line with the Original Trilogy at the center and the Expanded Universe all around it, and with the Prequels included in the EU through the novelizations.
