The nice thing about my situation was: my Directv unit was going out anyways. When you get Tivo, it's $5 a month no matter how many Tivos you own - the service covers all of them. I also have to pay another $5 a month for the second Directv box, but since each box has two tuners, it's like having 4 boxes for the price of 2.

The only drawback is that my wife's friend has a DISH two-tuner PVR, and it can output two different shows to two different TVs at the same time. Mine won't. It's not horrible, since both Tivos and TVs are in the same room. We use the second one mainly for my daughter's shows (we have 3-4 episodes of each of her favorite shows saved. It beats having to look for them in real time, assuming they are on at that time.) I also have it recording 80's videos from MTV, and every few weeks I sit and watch those for nostalgia's sake.
