I’m sorry to say Bounty Hunter Pursuit makes for a very poor fit for this scene. The tone sounds all wrong. Maybe the speeder bike chase music? Then again, I guess we already have enough OT music in these films.

For anyone interested in opening the movie with Kylo’s vision I altered the Star Destroyer Vehicle Flythroughs opening to start from a freeze frame so that it can more easily be placed after a title crawl:

Also, sorry to be pedantic but “Bounty Hunter Pursuit” was the name of the Lego set (and later, level in Lego Star Wars TCS) based on that AOTC scene; the song itself is “Zam the Assassin/Chase Through Coruscant.” While there is a song on the soundtrack called “Bounty Hunter’s Pursuit” it’s what plays during the asteroid field chase.
You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

Ah dude Great Job, I LOVE IT!

This isn’t really an idea, but does anyone know where one could find an HD version of this tv spot?

Ah yes,
I recall probably a year or so ago somebody (may have been snooker) put out a request for a HD version of that exact TV spot. The intent was to use the brief shot of Kylo putting on his helmet to ‘block Sith whispers’ or something, to provide better clarity as to why it was reforged.
A HD version was never found.

It used to be on the Star Wars channel, but was removed.
Title: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - “Rey vs Ren” TV Spot
URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdVCjJPnaUs
I found a cropped-in version on the French Star Wars channel here.
And uncropped (and in English), the best reupload I could find is here (not ideal quality).
“Always in motion is the future” 🌌
I’ve got some ideas to hopefully add some clarity to this film. Highlights:
Palpatine always wanted Rey dead until his plans were interrupted
Kylo was being groomed for eventual Sith possession but not until Rey was handled
Rey’s parents were not noble protectors but garbage people who knew Palpatine was searching for their daughter and dropped their shipment at the first sign of an Imperial Cruiser (so to speak)
Palpatine is a lying liar who lies to goad and corrupt Rey into causing her own Sith possession. He pivots whenever the circumstances change. First with Rey instead of Kylo and then again when finding out they are a Dyad.

Enjoy!

I’ve got some ideas to hopefully add some clarity to this film.
The first clip is neat; I like that line a lot and iirc it’s not in the final movie - but I’m not really sure what it implies there. Is Palpatine suggesting he knows Kylo wants to ‘come together’ with Rey (uh, not like that) and is threatening him in advance, like a “don’t try allying with her because she’s not who you think she is!” type deal? I’m not really sure; I think it’d work much better in the ending Exegol sequence somewhere to reinforce the idea of the team-up/dyad (though I have no idea how you’d fit it in there).
I only skimmed the second clip and my memory of TROS is not super fresh so forgive me if I missed some changes, but the one I did notice was “You are his granddaughter.” which is much superior to “You are a Palpatine.” IMO because it feels less like a forum speculation thread post and more like something a human being might say, and your execution of it is good to my ears.
Having Palps lay the possession plan out to Pryde is a great idea. After all, if he’s the leader of the First/Final Order, it would be pretty crucial for him to know that ‘Rey’ isn’t bluffing when she claims to be Empress after Palpatine/“All the Sith” possess her. More importantly it gets that information across to the audience nicely while allowing you to cut it from the later scene, which I think you’ve done fairly nicely (it’s pretty key for me that Palpatine doesn’t tell Rey that he’s planning to possess her, lol.).
Having Rey kind of implicitly admit she wants to kill Palptine, only being distracted by Ben’s arrival, is a cool little moment and is infinitely superior to “…that’s what I want!” followed by Palpatine Bond-villain monologuing his secret plan to a confused Rey. However, “The Jedi are dead!” comes out of nowhere, and the audio transition after it feels strange. Ben’s arrival feels too split up also, I think, with the huge chunk of boring ground/space battle in between - but having him over “…your new family dies” warms my Reylo-sympathising heart. The editing of Rey agreeing to kill Palpatine is a little abrupt (though again, it sure beats “I won’t even hate you!!!” or whatever, which is a strange thing to say to someone you’re about to blow up) but I agree with the idea in concept.
While your idea of bringing Ben’s arrival sooner works quite well, I think some more drastic restructuring of that sequence (and trimming down of the blehhhh space/ground battles) are called for to make it really land without seeming like the Knights of Ren just stare at him for ages.
Palpatine’s broadcast over the destruction of Kijimi works well too, I think (though I hate the Death Star rehash too much to ever leave that scene in a personal edit of the movie).
Edit: You could possibly do a version of that Pryde scene where Palpatine conveys something using “[their] coming together will be [their] undoing”, mentioning the Dyad somehow; make it a kind of twist that he does know about it and is deliberately playing them so they both come to him so he can succ them dry - though that does then confuse the ritual scene with Rey somewhat because he’d no longer have any reason to goad her into attacking him. How Palpatine could find out about it is also a missing piece (though of course the theatrical movie never bothers to explain how Kylo knows about it in the first place).
First, thank you sade1212 for the kind and thoughtful post. I only recently picked this project back up again after about 11 months and I am nearly finished with the tone mapping and re-grading of my 4K HDR rip. Going through the whole film like that has been both incredibly frustrating and inspiring. I had to get some of these ideas out just to see if this cut is even going to work. Regarding some of your critiques:
The implication here is the master has just as much distrust of the apprentice as the reverse. Palpatine knows Kylo fought alongside Rey after killing Snoke and that he is still drawn to her. He senses consequences both for Kylo and his plans if they continue down that path so he issues a warning–one that is both true and manipulative. Those were my thoughts when doing the edit. I have since made some minor enhancements to the edit points and overall dialogue mix but left it very much in its current state. I’ll sit with that for a bit and see if it works in my cut or not.
The dyad of it all is a tough nut to crack. The only time Palpatine brings it up is with a sequence that would be hard to sell (even with creative editing) as anything other than shock. I think it’s credible that Snoke/Palpatine bridged their minds initially but was not aware of their true, underlying nature as a dyad and so it caught him unawares which gave him the opportunity to pivot–again. I have toyed with the idea of replacing the “restores the one true emperor” line with “your coming together is your undoing” because it feels more sinister and less ‘villain explain-y’ but it may not fit and that’s even more overdubbing/off-screen lines.
The changes in the Nobody Palpatine scene are admittedly subtle but hopefully give the impression of more cohesive themes throughout. I’m truly glad you liked the “you are his granddaughter” change.
Let me just say–I hate blowing up Kijimi. BUT if Palpatine were ever to do a galaxy-wide broadcast that would be his moment. Plus, it gives a reason for the galaxy to get involved in the end. Gone is the awkwardness of everyone having heard the Emperor has returned in the very beginning only to do a high-stakes mission to meet with a potential First Order spy to receive a critical message that…the Emperor is back? By leaving that information as new intel actually gathered by the Resistance and then having Palpatine’s wider reveal where it naturally slots in–it just feels right.
Regarding Exogul–this is the one that stings. Once you pointed out that it looks like Kylo and the Knights of Ren are just standing around staring at each other waiting for the plot to advance I couldn’t unsee it. Very obvious and thank you for pointing that out. I’ve corrected my error and made some other slight adjustments.

Now back to work. This 4K work print isn’t going to color correct itself (unfortunately [also huge shout out to skenera for the LUTs])!
Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.
How are u going about color correcting? Any chance to see some shots (looking for some comparisons for my own noobie color grading). If it’s in 4K, is it hdr or sdr?
It is a 4K HDR rip but I don’t have a setup capable of doing HDR grading so I’m converting to SDR. The file size is huge and there may have been a different way to do all this but I’m incredibly pleased with the results so far. Once I’ve got the graded work print complete I’d be happy to post some comparisons but honestly, a lot of the credit has to go to skenera as it is their LUTs that I’m using as the basis for my project.
Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.
I’ve been trying really hard to get the climax to work without any ritual but I can’t quite make the pieces fall into place. It’s all down to Rey and Palpatine’s interactions.
I know the object tracking isn’t perfect and the crawl isn’t 100% there but this is my first 4K test footage. Let me know your thoughts!

That’s really well put together! I don’t think a wipe is appropriate though, as you aren’t changing scenes.
Anyway, my plan is to pan down from the crawl to Sinta Glacier Colony.
Pretty sure a crawl is supposed to have four periods at the end. A small detail, to be sure, but it would be a welcome one.

Pretty sure you’re right. That’s an easy fix (thank goodness). I’ll note that for my project and correct it with the final upload. Thanks!

I don’t know if anyone has thought of it, but what if we turned Palpatine’s lighting into Red at the end. It would truly show Palpatine’s strength and what he’s like in his true, strongest form. It would also be cool visually as well with Rey pushing off with her sabers (And Force Ghosts) against The Red Lighting. It’s like Red vs Blue, Evil vs Good. Thoughts?
#TROSFAN
It is a nice idea, especially since we see the Son on Mortis use the same kind of lighting. The only problem really is how hard it would be to execute. There’s lots of blue in that scene, and I’d imagine isolating just the lightning would be a hassle.
Skenera made an excellent LUT that made Exagol and the lightning red a couple pages ago but it would need to be isolated to just the lightning.

Looks like a blanket tint to me.
And even if the lightning and lightsabers are isolated, mixing red and blue like that may become a seizure hazard so gotta be careful. Someone did a mockup of it on Reddit. I guess you could make it seizure-safe by leaving the background lightning flashes red or something close to it, but that would be kinda weird. If you make all lightning red this isn’t an issue and the only thing blue would be the lightsabers. Personally, I think making all lightning red across the series would be nice to color coordinate with the Dark Side using red lightsabers.
Okay, I understand, you guys don’t want red Exegol, you want red lightning. That’ll teach me to post before reading.

I know that MoviesRemastered is planning on doing this for his edit.
I recently also looked into the documentary and found this scene right here. It wasn’t used at all within the film. https://streamable.com/tz6ygg

The green screen might be a little difficult, especially because of how it’s reflected in the floor as well. Also, I may be mistaken but doesn’t this scene have Richard Grant talking over it? So, we wouldn’t even be able to have the original audio for it.
Hi there! Does someone know if that clip made of a Darth Nihilus statue on Exegol was ever made available?
A clip of what now? Did I miss that? I thought that was only concept art.
