Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 91

So, inspired both by Hal’s Ascendant edit and 13:44 of this video right here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp-D-488Yxk), what if the re-made Skywalker saber in TROS had a different sort of ignition to it?

As we all know, the saber got split in half in TLJ and then re-made in TROS. Naturally, you would think things would be different with the saber after basically being welded back together again, whether it be the blade being crackly (ala Hal’s edit) or something else. I think it would be interesting to go one step ahead and just make the saber completely different and unreliable at points. And I think doing stuff like making it more plasma-y or whatever could be very interesting.

Geez louise, why can’t that dude just talk normally? He sounds os insufferable. All he was missing was a “le” in his post.

Other than that… that’s very interesting.

Looks interesting but I’m not going to struggle through reading this guy’s le quirky writing style

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of ending TRoS with Rey sacrificing the entire Resistance to destroy the entire Final Order, sorta like the Moment in Doctor Who. It’s a pyrrhic victory. Everyone is dead except Ben and Rey. Makes for an ending that’s decidedly quite different than RotJ and somehow feels more poignant.

It also works really well with my rhyming scheme where the Prequels and Originals are opposites and the Sequels are a balance between the two. The Prequels end badly, the Originals end well, so it only makes sense the Sequels would end bittersweet.

So, here’s a pretty radical idea I had last night that might make a large chunk of the fanbase mad. Sorry that its a little long winded and rambling.

Since the release of TROS, I know there’s been talks about converting the NotAnotherDesertPlanet into one we already know from the series (i.e. Tatooine, Jakku or even Jedha). But WHAT IF… we made Pasanna into Cantonica?

Hear me out: We already know that Cantonica is a desert planet and we’ve already visited the more opulent side of it. But what about the rest of the planet? What if in a contrast to the previous movie, our heroes have to go back to the planet and visit the more natural side of it? The side which unlike the rich, snooty city of greedy offworlders that is Canto Bight, is full of tradition and culture amongst the natural residents of it? A side which shows just exactly it means to not fight what we hate but to save what we love? I think doing this could accentuate the themes of both TLJ and any fan edits of TROS (specifically ones like Hal’s Ascendant). It could drive home the importance of family to Rey’s arc as well as adding more substance to make the final battle with the Civilian Fleet have more of an impact (showing how while rich tycoons have played both sides of the wars, it’s ultimately just ordinary people who turn the tide of battle once and for all). In addition, it helps explain a logical problem some people have with the theatrical movie about why there would be such a heavy First Order presence on this backwater planet. Because it would make more sense if this was the planet where not even a year ago, two Resistance spies caused a massive disruption and were able to sneak aboard the First Order’s capital using that planet as a springboard. Plus, we’d TECHNICALLY get to see Lando on the gambling planet. Lol.

The only downside of this I can think of is that it would make the obvious backpedaling of Rose in the movie even more lamer. Because why wouldn’t Finn and Co. let her come along to the planet she already was on? Other than that, I think it would be an interesting idea to consider.

Cantonica is never clearly established as a desert planet onscreen. All the audience sees is Canto Bight. Besides, I don’t really see the point in this change. Of all the planets you could change it to, why Cantonica? You say it drives home TLJ’s themes but I just don’t see it.

As for Rose’s absence…are you sure we can’t just roto her into the wide shots and give her a line or two? It’s not like Finn or Poe are contributing much to the fetch quest, so will anyone even notice her lack of contribution?

Just seeing another side of a previously-established planet is cool enough on its own to justify it, honestly, even if Cantonica isn’t a very interesting planet.

What if we do Jakku instead? Because afterall Jakku had secret stuff reguarding the Sith. Palpatine afterall built a hidden Clonning Chamber found in The Aftermath Trilogy, also it would all connect again back to The Force Awakens.

Jakku makes a hell of a lot more sense imo. Makes the trilogy come full circle, and if you leave in the part about it being Ochi’s ship you can sorta see a link there where maybe he never made it off the planet.

This has probably brought up before, but what if Kylo actually heard Vader’s voice when talking to his helmet in TFA? It would tie in perfectly to “I have been every voice you have ever heard inside your head.” Hell, have him hear Snoke’s voice at some point too, perhaps in TLJ.

This shot if it exist in HD (it probably does, as I’m pretty sure this is from the BtS documentary) can easily be composited into anything since it’s in front of a bluescreen.

What if we make it rainning during the duel of Death Star II? It would look cooler

I think I know what’s gonna be put back in: the old 20th Century opening, albeit it’s a much NEWER design to be up to date.

It could either be the 2013-2020 “Fox” logo, used at the time the film itself was released…

…or the current “Studios” branded version.

I’m gonna test both of them out and see what looks right.

Replace the entirety of the storylines with the Thrawn trilogy novels from the '90s.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

This is an edit thread, not a rewrite thread, and even in a rewrite thread that’d be pretty useless.

Is there a way to make General Pyrde be Grand Admiral Thrawn, because I mean it makes sense within events from Rebels and his own novels. We would just have to redub Pryde and also change his skin to Blue. I think it would be a cool call back for EU fans as well. Because afterall, The Emperor REALLY likes Thrawn according to Rebels and the Timothy Zahn Canon trilogy.

It would require a lot of VFX work - I remember someone doing a really cool VFX test to turn Rey’s outfit black, which was a 1000% improvement, but the AI software couldn’t detect the edges perfectly. Changing a person’s skin to blue would be even more difficult for an AI, and I think you’d have to manually rotoscope it in most shots. That’s a staggering amount of work; just look at the “crackling saber” VFX from the Ascendant edit thread.

It’s possible, but it would take a huge amount of work, besides which - do you really want Pryde’s character in the movie to be Thrawn? He doesn’t really gel with Thrawn in the rest of SW media personality wise.

I don’t see what the point would be.

It would be so hardcore fans can watch the edit and scream “I KNOW WHO THAT IS!” Given that TROS has way too many of those moments already, I really don’t think it’s a good idea.

Yeah, not to bag on to the dog pile about this idea, but it also wouldn’t make sense why it would be conveyed as a “big reveal” in the movie if you change him to Thrawn. We’d already know he’s had dealings with the Emperor before.

Yeah I agree. Replacing him to be thrawn would be cool for the sake of just doing it, but in the grander scheme of things with respect to the movie it serves no greater purpose to the story. Can u imagine if that existed in the theatrical from the getgo? Everyone would be complaining what a waste of a character/missed opportunity that was.
