I agree. On it’s own, it’s just a fun bit of nostalgia which I’m sure is why it was cut, but it’s really essential from the wider standpoint.
On that note, here’s my second pass at the face, as well as adjusting the lighting of the shot:

There’s still a bit of distortion in the face if you look closely, but I’m pretty sure a casual viewer wouldn’t bat an eye since it could be chalked up to natural distortion through the window.
Now all I need to add is the ambient sound for the scene.
