Honestly, both are amazing offerings and no one’s really going to be missing out on anything major if they choose one over the other. Really to me, it all comes down to just a matter of how much of a purist you are for this kind of thing. As TN1 stated on their page for 4K77, some versions look cleaner, have generally better colors but this is as close to authentic as one can get to basically watching it as it appeared on theater screens whereas Despecialized is a stunning labor of love in how far it goes to reconstruct the original theatrical versions at the highest quality possible.

For me personally though, I prefer 4K77 and 4K83 and I’m most definitely gonna nab 4K80 once it’s available. To me there’s something about that theater look that clicks right with me when it comes to the OT more than a uber cleaned up polished release. Sure on the one hand that means less fine detail but I can live with that and to me personally it kind of adds to the experience. I don’t know maybe I’m a weird one but generally I like my OT to look a little more like this where it’s a bit dirty and faded, almost like an old western flick whereas the PT and ST I like more polished.
