The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released) — Page 25

Hey, Hal? How would you feel about adding back in some unused music that John Williams had composed for certain scenes. Not just in this project, but some of your other Star Wars projects too. I thought Adywan did a nice job for a small portion when Han is lowered out of the carbonite, whereas in the original film, the music stops, gone for a moment, and then comes back again.

Thanks, Hal. I’ll post the links to other unused music in the other threads just to keep things in topic and for you to consider maybe adding them back in.

There are even more unused pieces of music that were for certain scenes, though they were replaced by other music. These listed are tracks that can be easily added back in for scenes with no music playing in the scenes.

I don’t think I’d use most of those, to be honest. Although, the lossless audio output makes it possible for the intrepid person to edit anything into them.

But, I’ll go over that list later on and at least consider them, especially those that patch up gaps in the film’s score.

I think generally when they decide to leave out score in the final mix, I agree with them. But thank you for compiling these!

No problem. I think the carbonite music that Adywan restored is the only one I feel is worth putting back in, as I always found it to be jarring how the music just stops and then comes back.

The carbon freezing chamber score dropping out at that moment seems to be a deliberate creative decision, and I think I prefer it the way it is in the movie. Although, I can’t say I was aware of that before today!

It strange when you grow upon the SE and you watch the theatrical version of ESB when the open the door too Boba’s platform and the music stops just as when Chewie starts firing and it’s weird. The music add to the tension because we all feel like everyone else feels we almost save Han so I’m glad that’s one instance. Another strange music change is when Luke rises up into the Carbon Freezing chamber you hear the low piano note that starts the original fighting music intended for the scene but come time of the SE they cut it properly as soon as the door shuts on R2. I have to say my favorite bit of music composed but never made the final cut is the chamber fighting music though it works without it though it also works with it with the added emotions hear awesome renditions of Vader theme and when Luke gets the upper hand you hear Yoda’s theme meaning Yoda’s training has helped Luke for him to this point. I think ESB is Williams greatest work and how at least 30 to 40% of his score wasn’t used. I love how Harmy has a score only opinion so one could see all the intended music especially for Empire. Just a thought Id wanted to share

All my life as I looked away to the future, to the horizon. Never in my mind did I know where I was, what I was doing.

I know you’re waiting on Dat_SW_Guy to do a mockup of the intro to Mos Eisley, but is it okay if I give it a try as a mockup possibly, Hal? I don’t know VFX, so I wouldn’t be able to remove most of the womp rats like Adywan did.

I just noticed that Dat_SW_Guy finished his Mos Eisley mockup, I think.

Are you still planning on revising A New Hope like you mentioned with some of the changes back in September, Hal?

Hi. Sorry if this was answered before, but the effect of the lightsabers are improved in these edits? Mostly the Luke training scene on the falcon in ANH.

Might be fun to do an alternate audio track to feature Morrison as Fett right as he gets ‘killed.’

I’m sure the new show will provide plenty of grunts and sounds like that. But does anyone know where to find a “what the—“ and a scream from Temuera Morrison?

If you want to find a scream, check out the death screams from the video game, Bounty Hunter.

They are, at least at present, unchanged from the 19SE version aside from color correction from ohteedee.

Do you plan to implement Adywan’s upcoming lightsaber shots (notably Luke’s training) from ANH:R HD? They look very nice.

I’d also think it would be nice to re-time and properly sync Leia’s “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope” during the garage scene, which Adywan also did.

I also really like Adywan’s new take on the saber onboard the Falcon in ANH. However, it remains to be seen whether it’ll match up well since I believe it’s built on the 2011 BluRay. But I agree that that’s the best that scene has ever looked.

Personally, I don’t feel the need to try to go in and correct myriad filmmaking issues like the Leia sync. I suppose I could give it a try, though. This project has slipped somewhat from its original goal of hybridizing official versions, but I still tend to lean in that direction anyway.

Business was slow today so I worked on adding Morrison to ROTJ. I used the sound of Boba’s jet pack from Mandalorian s02e01 to help mask the original scream. I’ve replaced vocalization when Luke slices his blaster, he collapses, says “what the,” flies out of control, bashes against the barge, and gets swallowed. (The last two weren’t easily removed without damaging the soundscape because they took the other sound effects with them, so new sounds were added to augment them.)

It’s not polished fully, but it sounds all right. The performance is a little less screamy, but I tried to make it as close as possible. Fortunately the Bounty Hunter GameCube game provides a lot of options. I’ll post a clip whenever I can finish it up.

There’s also a very nice take of “as you wish” that I plan to add to ESB, to have in place for whenever I next revise it. (Won’t put out a whole release for just that.) I don’t plan to replace the other lines, since they would be paraphrased and wouldn’t blend well. The “as you wish” line is in a scene all its own and I think it’d do fine. It sounds like Morrison imitated the Wingreen delivery. For a hypothetical first time SE viewer this would be easier to swallow.

Nice! I look forward to seeing it.
