The ‘Custom Special Edition’ That Almost Wasn’t, But Then Was (Released) — Page 24

It seems like when they removed the original line, “He’s no good to me dead,” they also had to remove a background scream from Han that bleeds into the start of the line. There in 1980, not in 2004.

It’s not something one would be likely to notice unless zeroing in on that exact moment like I am right now. Lol

I’m gonna send out a slight update to ESB to offer an audio track featuring Temuera Morrison voicing Boba Fett.

There will still be an audio track to select with the original voice, but I think it’d be worthwhile to have this as another option.

This was something I was gonna ask about so it’s awesome that you’re already on it! Will it be a seperate file or do I need to download the entire movie again?

Makes sense. I’ll just have to suffer through Google Drive zipping the 1080p folder again… 😉

Since I’m sure I’ll be doing the DTS encode, I’ll happily send a link to the DTS track once it’s ready for anyone who just wants the audio - if Hal doesn’t upload the audio track separately himself, that is.

I can host the separate audio track also, at least for long enough for anyone who already has V4.

I think I’ll make it the default audio option, with the existing ‘purist’ track remaining in place. This track omits the '04 Fett voice alteration and modified “a Jedi Master who instructed me” line.
Or, I could add a third track with the new Fett voice, but the former option would be simpler and more intuitive.

Somebody watched this week’s Mandalorian.

Personally I think the two track solution would work for most people and keep things simple.

As for the Battlefront lines, “As You Wish” is the only one that’s an exact match and I’d be in favor of using it. The others are slightly rephrased.

The slightly updated version of ESB is on its way up, as is the audio track by itself for anyone who wants it. I will remove the audio track file eventually, but it’s there if you already downloaded the full edit already.

Since ANH and ESB have some changes made from scratch such as hyperspace, Adywan’s Emperor, and a few line changes; did you ever consider adding an alternate track for ROTJ with the unused music cue of Luke and Obi-Wan on Dagobah?

“Star Wars has, and will always be a restaurant.”

I had not, and that music never became an ear worm for me. However, with the lossless audio output for the project it shouldn’t be super difficult for you to do if you’d like.

Hi, i’m very sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. But is there a similar edit that anyone has made or that you have made that is essentially the same as this Return of the Jedi edit, with the only major change being that it keeps Hayden Christensen as Anakin?

“You will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view” — Obi-Wan Kenobi

You could! Would be fairly simple and could be a good learning exercise.

Most people around here prefer Shaw, and I personally have no desire to present the Hayden ghost in ROTJ.

Does anyone know where one could find the original music for the entrance into Mos Eisley. The SE uses ‘Diamond,’ but the original version had a short little bumpy piece of music during the approach to the trooper checkpoint.

Oh, good, I assumed that little bit wasn’t on the soundtrack. Thanks!

Also, given what Dat_SW_Guy has been up to, I sketched out how I’d revise the entrance into Mos Eisley:

—-
“We must be cautious.”

Wipe transition, OOT music sourced from OST. Musical sync isn’t important, as long as there’s enough to cover, because the establishing shot will unavoidably be longer than the original version.

2019 establishing shot with speeder approaching from behind. Rats removed.

The shot of people walking around (SE background but no Jawa or ronto elements; essentially the original version with SE backdrop)

Heroes approach checkpoint. OOT imagery, with no ronto in background or floating sentry droid.

After checkpoint, either include SE long shot to pull back and get a better view and the ronto as the speeder pulls up to the cantina and parks, or else include neither.

SE for the remainder of the scene, with animated dewback at the entrance. Add a quiet lead-in to the cantina band music, as a nod to the '77 mono mix.

Sounds good to me. I still really like Adywan’s entrance to Mos Eisley, apart from using the Dianoga track that was added in the Special Edition.

Also, if you’re interested in hearing what the Dianoga scene would have played like with the original intended track, I pieced it together last year here.

Any work done on the revised Mos Eisley yet?

Just to think out loud, here’s how I would like to revise ANH ideally, feasibility be damned. I watched ANH recently along with a friend who wanted to watch the OT and hadn’t really taken it in before.

  • I’d remaster the audio for the opening crawl, since the same recording is out there in higher quality than what we hear.

  • Slow the opening logo down as it recedes, though the method I used for the 2011 source won’t work

  • I’d love to get finished versions eventually of what DatSWguy is working on, being Alderaan explosion with no shockwave and the Mos Eisley entrance

  • Replace the shot of the fighters moving from Yavin IV toward the Death Star because the CG doesn’t hold up and the astromechs’ panels stick out as incorrect at a glance (unlikely; it’d have to be a really good fan made CG shot but need not be identical; it could essentially recreate the OOT blocking using new CG elements)

  • Fixing the jump as R2 is lifted up into Luke’s X-wing while talking with Biggs (this will be available eventually from Adywan, though his fixes to R2’s red-blue light would need to be undone for consistency)

  • R2’s red-blue light being made to match its post-ANH appearance (Adywan is doing this beautifully, though I couldn’t use shots across the movie because many will have other changes that wouldn’t fit in, and it’ll be based on a different primary source; this one is pie in the sky)

Other then that, I’d say the ANH Custom SE makes for good viewing and nothing took me out of it.

I’ve always liked the idea of having R2’s light remain the way it is in the entirety of ANH, however have it match the rest of the series in the very last scene (after R2 has been fixed up).
