The Shining (1980) - Zemastered Edition v3.1

Description:

I was disappointed, but not surprised to see that the 1972 Warner Bros logo was not restored on the 4K release. This sparked a simple project to recreate the logo, and add it to the start of the film. Soon after I started working on this project, I discovered the ABC broadcast from 1985 and the 1991 Laserdisc have blue credits at the end. I felt it gave the credits an even more unnerving feeling, so I added it back to the film.

The shots with snow are very white in the 4K remaster. When I was watching the 4K remaster, I always thought the snow should be shifted more blue instead of being sharply white. The 2007 Blu-ray had too much blue in my opinion, but I don’t think it should be eradicated completely.

I was able to get the mono soundtrack from both the 1991 Laserdisc and the 1999 DVD!

Hey include the original mono mix too

I would love to, but I cannot get my hands on it. I know someone on fanres sync’d it to the new transfer, but the poster says participating members only, and I had just made my account. So no luck in that department.

Why not post your project in the Projects section of the forum? I’m sure members there will gladly share the mono audio track with you.

I meant post it in the Projects section of the fanres forum. The guys over there are really supportive of new projects like yours and I’m sure you’d have no trouble getting the audio you need.

Ah, thank you for the suggestion. I have no idea why it didn’t come to me before. Hopefully I can get what I need, I’d love to see a finished version of this amazing movie.

hmmm…
How are we supposed to find this .mkv movie file?
OR is this only for you, and no one else?
P.S. PLEASE share us the audio file(s) of the original mono mix.

It’s available at another famous forum for the star wars trilogy. I don’t have the mono mix I could share, and the current one I have I can’t share until I finish v3.0 of my project which is on hold. No need to be so pushy btw, that’s not a way to get anything done.

Oh, I’m sorry.
Where can I find this forum, and how do I get a copy of the audio file(s) from them?

Google is your friend for both of those things! I’m not sure if I should say directly where to get it.

Well, there’s no trace of anything non-Star Wars related on that “other Star Wars forum” anyway…

Hmm I checked it out and the download is working for me, I am not sure why it isn’t working for you. The only thing I can think is that Google was messing up. I hope the download ends up working for you!

The OP lists the audio bitrates as higher then what’s available in the mkv on sharemania. Is this a mistake or are higher quality ones available elsewhere?

I don’t have the DTS-HD MA files available as a standalone due to compromises to get those audio tracks, but the encodes included sound identical due to the source only being around 192kbps.

I just created a ShareMania account to get this. Just wondering is it safe?

I haven’t had one issue and I host it though Google Drive so there shouldn’t be any issues!

I saw this at a friend and knew something was a little different (and better, more nostalgic) than the original release, but could not put my finger on it… then I saw this here. Nice work, thank you!

I always felt that The Shining deserved some fan edit love. It would be fantastic to see just the right hybrid between the US and European cut (no skeletons, no early over-exposition, but some more time to breathe than the European cut in the first half). Maybe there is such a cut somewhere that I am not aware of…
