I guess I would fall in between the Purits and the Non-Alligned. I want the original versions released on DVD, but I also want the originals to get the same cleaned up, remastered, THX treatment that the 2004 DVDs have gotten.

Some of the things that Lucas had done in 97 for the SE were fine with me. Removing the matte lines and the entire clean up of the Hoth battle, some of the expanded Mos Eisley, and a few of the other minor changes I thought were fine. It didn't change any character arcs nor did it alter any of the plot or pacing. Things like Luke's scream, Greedo shoots first, Vader shuttle sequence, Jedi Rocks were all just silly and not needed.

I'm also all for Lucas fixing the films to his heart's content as long as the films that I saw in 77,80, and 83 are preserved and made available to me on DVD. All that we're asking for is that both versions be made available. Let us, the public, choose which ones we want to be. Don't tell us, 'either buy these versions or go without.' And that is basically what Lucas has stated. Now who is being disrespectful to whom?
