You say that after I already replied, Mackey!

MeBe, how's the transfer going?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

It's getting there. My second computer is down (I need a new CPU fan), so I'm working with half my resources right now. (Can't wait 'til my paycheck comes in!)

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Here's some more news on The Frighteners. Taken from theonering.net

Even More Frighteners Goodies lined up!
- Submitted by Lewman

After a deep anal probe of the BBFC the following nuggets of fun were dug up for the Frighteners Special Edition Extras:

THE FRIGHTENERS - INTRO TO FEATURE THEATRICAL - 2m 20s
THE FRIGHTENERS - INTRO TO FEATURE DIRECTOR'S - 2m 39sCUT
THE FRIGHTENERS - INTRO TO MAKING OF - 1m 55s

Now whats intresting is the seperate Theatrical and Directors cur intros. I guess we can now expect BOTH versions to be included in the DVD set. Either via seamless (haha) branching or it being on another disk. I guess that would explain why the French Edition has announced the release as a 3 disk set. Whether the US R1 version will have this is not clear yet, but defiantely the UK R2 version will.

So look foawrd to seeing a new slim trim PJ introducing each of the featurettes!

And more:

Frighteners Documentary uncut? Safely say YES!
- Submitted by Lewman

Here at TBHL we like to get to the bottom of things. Right to the very bottom! So we have been doing some sniffing around on the BBFC and guess what we found! We found the submitted documentary parts that they have classified. So what does this mean? Well it appears that documentary is split into 5 parts. Now each part is just under an hour in length. Here are the exact details :

26/09/2005 Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd - 58m 2s
THE FRIGHTENERS - MASTER REEL 1

19/09/2005 Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd - 51m 21s
THE FRIGHTENERS - MASTER REEL 2

26/09/2005 Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd - 53m 48s
THE FRIGHTENERS - MASTER REEL 3

26/09/2005 Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd - 51m 15s
THE FRIGHTENERS - MASTER REEL 5

Now we are missing the 4th reel, but im pretty sure from my calculations (having owning the out of print LD) that the 4th reel will be approx 54mins. This means that the documentary by all approximation will be full and uncut.

Hooray Universal! You've made me a happy bastard!

While I'm hopeful Universal is releasing the full documentary, keep in mind that those extras listings are for the UK only and don't necessarily apply to the R1 release.

Just to let any Aussie fans of The Frighteners on this board, that the Australian R4 will be a 3-disc set. I am soooo glad that we don't have to get the cruddy DVD-18 disc. Having 2 DVD-9s is a much better idea.

...and yes I am kinda bumping this thread... if this is still happening (and I hope it is - much like DFNYC's Criterion "The Game"), what's the status?

Except this set might have a newly recorded commentary track, and the documentary will still probably have some edits somewhere.

We have come this far on this project. We might as well see it through to the end.

That's right Mackey256. It should be seen through to the end.

And even if there aren't edits in one region, there may be edits in another region. For instance, while the US got a great Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition DVD, the R4 here in Australia lost the mono track, photo booklet and 15 minutes (!) of the 2hr documentary. So after waiting all this time, for no good reason at all, we get a cut version of the documentary. BTW, this is the 2hr doco that was on the Laserdisc.

That's a lot of conjecture. This isn't Jaws, and just saying 'There's probably some edits" doesn't mean there will be any, and from every indication so far, EVERYTHING that was on that LD is going to this DVD set. All of it. There MIGHT be a new commentary track, but I doubt it, simply because Jackson seems to have been WAY too busy on Kong to have sat down and done a full commentary.

I'm guessing MeBe is simply waiting to see what's actually what before pressing forward.

That's what they said about the new Jaws re-release.

Hmmm...more conjecture. For the record, I'm finally back from vacation, and getting ready to reinstall Windows. Then this project will continue. The good Rev wants it, and I don't intend to disappoint him.

Of course it's conjecture. That's why I put "My guess is." at the beginning of it.

And no, they didn't say that about Jaws. They didn't say ANYTHING about putting the full documentary on there. Not that I remember. They just...didn't say either way. Sneaky bastards.

I think the DVD he was talking about was the "Production Diaries" DVD-set for "King Kong"... I don't believe P.J. is involved in the "Frighteners" DVD-set, other than the new intros, since it's basically a DVD-version of the LD (which was of course supervised by P.J.).

As a big Frighteners fan, I'm glad that this project is still happening, too. How many official releases have been botched? (or, contain, uh, creative decisions of a deliberate nature) There are even sections on DVD websites now that keep track of flaws, edits, cuts, missing elements, etc. You have to research every title before and sometimes after its release on the 'net to see what possible eff-ups, re-releases, versions, inconsistencies, etc, there are.

Back to the Future II & III had framing issues; Thundercats had an episode with no score on it-- in both cases, replacements were issued. Cartoons not shot in widescreen have black bars mercilessly slapped on them. Widescreen films are mercilessly panned & scanned. I have zero faith in ANY official release until it's playing on my TV. And even then, it's sometimes a crapshoot.
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Ah, so it looks like the German version will include the theatrical version as well as the director's cut. I still don't understand why they couldn't do this via seamless branching. But I like how the German DVDs include anything, anybody know the German Perfect Collection for Halloween (the first film) it's 4 discs; the theatrical cut + extras , the tv cut + extras, more extras and the fourth disc is the soundtrack. What a great collection, hey?

Id love of copy of peter jackson's longer cut of frighteners and the documentary.
