I don’t know if there’s a spot (or dialogue) for this, but what if Kylo says “Chewie…” softly to himself after everyone thinks the transport ship blows up? Considering that he must’ve known Chewie for his entire childhood, surely he would be upset by his apparent death? It might be a way to paint Kylo in more shades of grey, rather than “Grrr…I’m gonna kill people on my quest for power. Oh wait, I’m good now.”
