Here are my notes regarding the international dubbings and voiceovers of the OT.
Please feel free to add. 😃

Basque
Notes :

  • Aired on TV in 1992

Brazilian Portuguese
Notes :

  • Three Dubs
  • First done by Herbert Richers in the 1980s. Shown on TV and included on the first VHS releases.
  • Second done by Delart in 1997 for the Special Edition re-release. Available on all home media releases since 1997.
  • Third was done by Delart again for TV in 2015 to prepare for The Force Awakens. The Portuguese audio on Disney+ is the 2015 dub.

Bulgarian
Notes :

  • Multiple voiceovers. The most recent being done by Alexandra Audio in 2018.

Cantonese Chinese
Notes :

  • TV dub done in the mid-1990s for TVB. Not available on home media.

Catalan
Notes :

  • Return of the Jedi was the first film to be dubbed in Catalan for cinema release in 1983 and was later shown on TV.
  • The Empire Strikes Back was dubbed in 1990 for TV.
  • A New Hope was dubbed in 1992 for TV.
  • None of these dubs are available on home media. These dubs were preserved by fans in the highest quality in 2020.

Czech
Notes :

  • Multiple dubs produced on varying dates.

A New Hope

  • First dub done in 1991 for cinema re-release and was included on the first VHS release under the title Hvězdné války.
  • Second dub was done in 1997 for the second VHS release and was also shown on the ČT television network under the title Hvězdné války: Epizoda IV - Nová naděje.
  • Third dub was done for the Blu-Ray release in 2011 and was also shown on Nova and Prima television networks.

The Empire Strikes Back

  • First dub was done in 1992 for the first VHS release under the title Impérium vrací úder.
  • Second dub was shown on the ČT television network in 1995 under the title Hvězdné války: Epizoda V - Impérium vrací úder and was also remixed in 1997 for the first Special Edition VHS release.
  • Third dub was done for the Blu-Ray release in 2011 and was also shown on Nova and Prima television networks.

Return of the Jedi

  • First dub was done in 1992 for the first VHS release under the title Návrat Jediho.
  • Second dub was shown on the ČT television network in 1995 under the title Hvězdné války: Epizoda VI - Návrat Jediho and was also remixed in 1997 for the first Special Edition VHS release.
  • Third dub was done for the Blu-Ray release in 2011 and was also shown on Nova and Prima television networks.

English
Notes :

  • Original version.
  • The Empire Strikes Back was redubbed in 2004 for the Special Edition DVD release in order to tie in with the prequels. Clive Revill’s voice and Marjorie Eaton’s performance as The Emperor were replaced by Ian McDiarmid who portrayed the character in Return of the Jedi and the prequels. Jason Wingreen’s voice as Boba Fett was replaced by Temuera Morrison who portrayed Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones.

  • Second dub produced in 1995 by InterCom to unify the dubbings of the other two films in the trilogy.
  • Third dub produced in 1997 for a special VHS edition.

Return of the Jedi

  • First dub produced in 1993 for the first VHS release from Guild Home Video.
  • Second dub was made to unify the dubbings of the other two films in the trilogy.
  • Third dub produced in 1997 for a special VHS edition.

Notes :

  • Produced in the 2010s for TV showings on The Disney Channel. Also available on Disney+ Hotstar in Southeast Asia.

Italian
Notes :

  • The trilogy was partially redubbed in 1997 for the Special Edition re-release. These changes were directed by Tonino Accolla. These changes include :

A New Hope

  • In the added scene with Jabba the Hutt, Han Solo was dubbed by Angelo Maggi. Han’s line after he shoots Greedo at the Mos Eisley Cantina was redubbed by Angelo Maggi.
  • In the Biggs Darklighter scene, Luke was dubbed by Francesco Prando and Biggs was dubbed by Maurizio Reti.

The Empire Strikes Back

  • For the line, “Avvertite l’incrociatore stellare di prepararsi per il mio arrivo.” Darth Vader was redubbed by Rodolfo Bianchi.
  • In the 2004 Special Edition DVD release, Emperor Palpatine was dubbed by Carlo Reali.

Return of the Jedi

  • The scene in which Luke (in hologram) introduces himself to Jabba the Hutt was redubbed by Francesco Prando. Prando also redubbed some of Luke’s lines on Endor.
  • Some of Han Solo’s lines during the fight on Endor were redubbed by Angelo Maggi.

Japanese
Notes :

  • Multiple dubs produced on varying dates.

A New Hope

  • First dub was produced in 1978 for cinema distribution. Also supervised by George Lucas himself. Was made available on the Japanese 2006 DVD release.
  • Second dub was produced in 1983 and was shown on Nippon TV.
  • Third dub was produced in 1985 and was shown on Nippon TV.
  • Fourth dub was produced for the VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray release.
  • Fifth dub was produced in 2002 and was shown on Nippon TV.
    All TV dubs except the 1985 Nippon dub are lost.

The Empire Strikes Back

  • First dub was produced in 1980 for cinema distribution. Was made available on the 2006 DVD release.
  • Second dub was produced in 1986 and was shown on Nippon TV.
  • Third dub was produced in 1992 and was shown on TV Asahi.
  • Fourth dub was produced for the VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray release. The fourth dub was slightly redubbed in 2004 with Palpatine and Dak’s voices being replaced.
    The TV Asahi dubbing is currently lost.

Return of the Jedi

  • First dub was produced in 1988 and was shown on Nippon TV.
  • Second dub was produced in the 1990s for VHS, DVD, and Blu-Ray distribution.
  • Return of the Jedi is the only film in the OT not to receive a theatrical dubbing.
    Both dubs are found.

Korean
Notes :

  • Multiple dubs produced on varying dates.

A New Hope

  • First dub was produced in 1985 for KBS television.
  • Second dub was produced in 2003 for MBC television.
  • Third dub was produced in 2006 for KBS television.

Notes :

  • Two dubs for each film.
  • For the first dub, the dubs were produced varying on film release date. The first being from 1978 for A New Hope. The second being from 1980 for The Empire Strikes Back. The third being from 1983 for Return of the Jedi. These original dubs were produced in Los Angeles, California.
  • The second dub is from 1997 and was produced in Mexico.

Mandarin Chinese
Notes :

  • There are many dubs, at least three for each film. One produced in Beijing, another produced for CCTV6 in Shanghai, and another in Guangdong Mandarin.

Navajo
Notes :

  • Only A New Hope was dubbed into Navajo.

Persian
Notes :

  • These are illegal dubs. Some of the online uploads have this dub censored to accommodate Islamic customs.

Polish
Notes :

  • The official dubs were produced in 2011 for the first Blu-Ray release of the OT. Prior to that, voiceovers were produced.

Romanian
Notes :

  • Voiceover produced during Communism in the 1980s with one person reading the Romanian translation over the original English dialogue.
  • Only A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back were given a voiceover.
  • Available on unofficial VHS releases.

Russian
Notes :

  • There are multiple dubs produced on varying dates.

A New Hope has three dubs.

  • The first being in 1991 for cinema distribution in the Soviet Union.
  • The second in 2004 and was shown on ОРТ (ORT) television.
  • The third in 2011 for the Blu-Ray release.

The Empire Strikes Back has two dubs.

  • The first in 2004 and was shown on ОРТ (ORT) television.
  • The second in 2011 for the Blu-Ray release.

Return of the Jedi has two dubs.

  • The first in 2004 and was shown on ОРТ (ORT) television.
  • The second in 2011 for the Blu-Ray release.

Slovak
Notes :

  • Two dubs for each film.
  • The three films were first dubbed into Slovak in 1990s for Markíza television.
  • The three films were dubbed again for Disney+. The second Slovak dub was commissioned by Disney Character Voices International.
