Thanks CourtlyHades296. The standards there are very high and my standards for this edit at the time were let’s say “medium”. So in its current state it’s not quite ready. I’m not super interested in revisiting my old edits. But I’ve learned quite a lot now and my standards going forward are near perfection from an audio standpoint. Meaning especially paying attention to the music score during cuts so that they are always on tempo and artisticly pleasing. Before I would cut anywhere and just crossfade it so it wasn’t too noticeable on a casual viewing. Now I’m working on a Man of Steel edit in 4K called Son of Krypton which will go through the Fanedit.org vetting process.

Very interested read. I love your Corellia sideplot at the beginning with Kylo. As a huge Kylo Ren fan, it truley shows that you know the character, that he says “Let The Past Die” because he is haunted and obsessed with it. Could I possibley get a link to the fan cut, seems like you’ve put a lot of effort in it, with the clips I’ve saw above reguarding Rey’s parent twist!

I would like to see this particular edit of the film. If you could reach out to me, that would be awesome

Have you thought about restoring Leia’s “Always…” from the Final Trailer? Seems like a bit of a cop-out to redubbed it with Mark Hamill’s Luke in the final cut, if you ask me.

My edit is decent but rough, and I don’t plan on refining it any more.

Sent a PM, this looks unbelievably cool and I’d really love to check this out. I’ve actually been someone who has really enjoyed the Sequel Trilogy but man, TROS really left me cold and while Ascendant was pretty fantastic? This looks like it’s gonna scratch more of the itch for what I really wanted out of this.

Well a little while ago I finished the edit and gave my full honest review.

Thank you so much for the detailed and very fair review. Criticisms I would add to my own edit are some of the audio transitions in the cuts were not smooth enough especially in the monkey elf scene. And an earlier instance of the edit had slightly better editing on the revamped Kylo Dialogue. But unfortunately I did this edit in Premiere and it glitches when saving audio at a granular level and reloading the project.

My hope is someone builds off Ascendant while using my or a similar implementation (idea by idir_hh) of Rey Killed her parents. I’d also like to see others moving the Emperor reveal to later but no one has jumped on that. Hal’s implementation of the Emperor’s broadcast, though, is quite brilliant and I’d be fine with his version of the scene in a “definitive” cut.

The best parts of my edit are probably the improved Rey Vs Ren in TIE Fighter, replacing, new SFX for the cartoony stormtrooper yells, tightening up of the final battle sequences (Finn and Jannah getting rescued) and celebration/hugs afterward.

Glad you appreciated some of the elements. Hope someone else takes some of my ideas and builds something even better!

I’d like to see if an experience editor can make “Rey killed her parents” work as seamlessly in the film as possible with the currently available material.

Is it COVID-related or somewhat less serious? 😧

Thanks for the response and… oof I feel you. I don’t do audio editing but man I know what it’s like to make something killer and then the thing just glitches and messes up a few things. Thankfully it was a tiny issue and really didn’t take away from how awesome the idea and the execution was.

I’d agree actually, the edits there for the most part were so smooth I think it legitimately tricked my brain into thinking they were in the original.

Really I must thank you just in general for this. This was one amazing little watch and really it’s just so cool to see how someone can take one movie and with just a few changes make something very different.
