I never understood why Marcus Brody is portrayed as a level-headed character who is quite knowledgeable about ancient history in ROTLA, but is later portrayed as an ignorant bumbling fool in TLC.

It’s very strange indeed. In fact, why is Marcus featured so prominently in TLC to begin with? Why does he need to be there?

The film Luca is a fantastic story about not letting fear divide us, and always looking for the helpers and for those who accept us.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

The film Black Widow is an excellent example of the found family trope. A must see for Marvel fans, as well as fans of movies in general. I very much appreciated its messages of found family, rising above adversity, female empowerment and redemption.

The Red Shoes by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.

It’s such a mesmerising and beautiful film. It truly takes you to a bygone era and has so much magic to it. It truly is a lovely story with truly unexpected turns as you’re so captivated by the visuals and story that you don’t have time to think about what will come. It’s truly a remarkable feat in cinema. I’m stunned it was released in 1948.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

Finished the Snyder cut of Justice League. I liked it for the most part, but the ending kind of sucked and didn’t make sense. The biggest improvements were to The Flash as a character and Cyborg.

Probably the most overrated over hyped piece of Cinema ever. I’d give the film a B- where i’d give the Whedon cut a C-.

A slow plodding character piece with not very spectacular action, and the soundtrack was a total miss just like the Whedon version. Not very cinematic, 4:3 ratio cut up into chapters like a mini series. Or episodes of a show. I can honestly see how they figured this was an unreleasable mess. Maybe it was all setup and a sequel would have been better but we aren’t getting that movie.

I also watched Last Crusade and its easily the worst of the Indiana Jones movies. Its a self parody of the series, i used to like this one the most as a kid. But it just isn’t good. The humor ruins the movie for me, if they just had Sean Connery’s character not an imbecile or Marcus Brody, or Sallah acting like a parody of the character from Raiders, i might say its okay. It retreads old ground though and does nothing new just like Return of the Jedi. Empire Strikes Back and Temple of Doom will always be the films that took what the first film did in those series and did something new and unexpected.

Fast 9, it is one of the worst films in the series. The flying to outer space with a car with a rocket has to be one of the dumbest things i’ve ever seen in a movie.

Watched Tokyo Drift and i was surprised how much i enjoyed it.

Just finished Black Widow and i didn’t like it as much as i did Captain Marvel, but it wasn’t a bad movie by any stretch either just not a homerun expected of an MCU entry. Liked the family stuff, liked the female empowerment and loved when Black Widow beat the hell out of the guy from Indiana Jones 4 who was the villain.

I FINALLY watched Jaws for the first time last week. I think it’s aged very gracefully, although I do agree with people who say it demonized sharks.

I hate the Disney Channel Live Action Universe

Jaws has brilliant editing by Verna Fields which hides a lot of the problems of the original shoot and creates tension by not showing the shark all that much. And a Herrmann-esque score by John Williams which drives the character moments and gives life to the terror of the shark.

The only shots that sort of haven’t aged well are rear projection shots. Everything else is seamless.

I’m really glad they never went back and redid it in cgi.

Just watched the remake of RoboCop on tv it isn’t a bad film, but it is an unnecessary remake. And i really respect Gary Oldman as an actor but here he is overacting and really bad.

Ivan’s Childhood by Andrei Tarkovsky.

It tells the story of twelve year old Ivan whose a spy against the Nazis. It crosses between his present reality and his past memories with his mother. All I can say is it’s heartbreaking and gut wrenching to watch but definitely worth your time. It’s a film that stays with you and continues creeping in upon reflection.

Logan (2017).

Despite using X-Men characters such as Wolverine and Professor X, this isn’t a superhero movie and is actually a Western.

Hugo by Martin Scorsese.

It’s such a touching film. I don’t really know how to describe it without spoilers. I’ll just say that it feels like a true love letter to cinema and a refined era. It started off slow and nothing like I was expecting but it turned out to be a very profound and moving experience. I highly recommend it if you love cinema beyond popcorn flicks.

wait how come you have only watched Jaws this week? Jaws is a pretty old movie, right? Oh now I might just rewatch it again but I just finished watching “Full Count” which was directed by https://yesmovies.sx/watch/EIKfJWJ0/full-count-2019. I was just sort of scrolling down randomly until I stumbled upon it. So basically the movie surrounds a guy who turned down his chance to become a professional baseball player only to return home, where he faced lots of hardships. I don’t want to give out too many spoilers but I definitely recommend this movie. Not only is it realistic (you will see how well real life problems are portrayed) it is also very meaningful

Star Trek First Contact. the 2005 DVD release with what is reported to be the theatrical DTS mix in stereo.

This looks to be a pretty straight forward release only marred by being in standard def. There is no revisionism and no dnr.

Edit: watched the Mortal Kombat remake. It was a mess the only thing going for it was the R rating. There isn’t even a tournament, the soundtrack stinks. And you don’t have Christopher Lambert to elevate the material. Also the new Shang Tsung isn’t even as close to as good as the original. Scorpion is a good guy for some reason and the main lead is his made up descendant. Also no Kitana. I didn’t think it would be possible but the characters have even less depth than in the original movie. I know its based on a video game but come on.

The only part i liked was Scorpion’s finishing move but he didn’t say Toasty.

The film Shang Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings is an excellent story about passing on what you have learned and that no matter how dark you may think you are, you can find redemption.

Watched Rogue One. I liked it very much. The last act is pretty good except for the Vader scene it is mindlessly stupid and you could easily edit that part out. You could just show the plans were beamed to the Tantive IV and The Devastator was in pursuit.

I’d still like to see the version with the Imperial Walkers and Jyn and Cassian running like in the trailer, and all the deleted Saw Gerrera scenes.

Just finished watching Evangelion 3+1: Thrice Upon a Time, in fact I waited until all four Rebuild of Evangelion movies were released so I could watch them all.

The first two RoE movies are basically a retelling of the original series, a major difference being that the Angels are far more powerful and the battles are far more epic and destructive. However the climax of the second movie is where RoE wildly diverges from the original series.

In many ways RoE could be considered a counterpoint to the original series, as Shinji is a lot less mopey, the movies are far more action-packed and less psychological and the story ends on a hopeful note compared to The End of Evangelion which had a rather bleak ending.

Overall very enjoyable. The only character that left me puzzled was Mari.

I’ll defend the heck out of that movie. It’s so delightfully goofy and a genuine breath of fresh air after the DCEU nonsense.

I saw Young Frankenstein, Phantom of the Paradise, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story with a friend of mine recently. He really enjoyed each of them and I enjoyed having a new perspective on these films (I like all of them for their comedy style/aesthetic). Maybe it was unwise to show him Walk Hard before Bohemian Rhapsody or other formulaic musician biopics, but Walk Hard will give him a roadmap to tear those movies apart.

Phantom of the Paradise really is the best film version of the Phantom of the Opera/Faust story, if only because it feels more in-tune with the medium and very much sticks to its aesthetic. It doesn’t try to stick too closely to the source, but it gets similar ideas across. Young Frankenstein, outside of a few jokes, held up remarkably well. Wilder’s comedic stylings do transcend their time (e.g., the mood swings and the build-up to them).
