But here is what I can tell you…there is a new fan edit of DUNE that has just been completed. I have seen this edit, and compared to the other fan edits we’ve seen (Third Stage Edition, Spicediver, Michael Warren’s “complete saga”), this one is probably the first to bring together all known available legitimate footage David Lynch shot for the film (between all the video releases, the theatrical and Smithee cuts, and the outtakes) into one 185-minute edit. While this maintains the structure of the Spicediver “Redux” edit, all footage is there.

combination of the theatrical,tv version and all deletet scenes in only 185min??
that seems me to short…

You have to remember that although the TV version was touted as having “50 min. of never before seen footage”, it actually had only 35, not counting the repeated credits, cutback scenes from part I, the created-for-TV 7 min. prologue, and 5 min. of “cheated footage”. You also have to count the 17 min. of outtakes not in any cut of the film that only appeared on certain DVD and Blu Ray releases. All of the legitimately shot footage is in this new fan cut. None of the controversial changes and edits of the Smithee cut are in this edit. However, some of the male narration of that Smithee cut remains in the new edit only for continuity purposes. The SpiceDiver cut had some new sequences that incorporate most of the TV prologue cut into the plot proper…those scenes have been retained in the new edit as well.
