I don't quite believe that the original effects were dated. I first saw Star Wars in 1995, two years before the Special Edition with the remastered effects that were apparently much needed according to Lucas and ILM. But when I first saw it, I saw nothing jarring about the special effects. They held up just fine then, and they're pefectly believable now.

There is no lingerie in space…

Yeah, I agree. I can always tell when CG is being used - it's too fluent. Sure puppetry is a little rigid, but people and animals don't move like a glass of water, they move like various solid objects joined together. I find that animatronics is more realistic than both of them - did anyone think that the T-Rex in Jurassic Park looked fake? I didn't. But when they used CG-only in the Lost World, the dinosaurs were too fluid, and I could tell.

now he's messing with frank oz's work on episode 1, someone must stop him before he redoes yoda in the original trilogy as digital.

If the original 'Star Wars' was food, it'd be a hamburger. It's a classic, and always a crowd pleaser.

If the 2004 'Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope' were food, it'd be a steak. It's a classic, and many people enjoy it.

My point is that I like both hamburgers and steak but they're both cows in one way shape or form. I prefer hamburgers but I'm glad steak is there to eat on special occassions.

But I'm retarded, so what do I know. It's true - I rode the blue bus to school. But I also think I'm a Pirate Ninja so who knows...

if you think putting other artists out of work, or ruining their work is okay, then you really are lost. and can you believe lucas actually had the gall to go to the dga and ask for director's credits on empire and jedi because of the special editions?

That guy will do as he pleases. He doesn't like Marquand anyway. If you listen to him in interviews, he acts like he did everything: (example: "when I did the animation in this scene")

Did he actually do that? That doesn't make much sense, though, does it? He's not a member of the DGA, is it?

Well at least the Yoda's in the PT at least look like each other now.

He won't change the OT Yoda, so who really gives a shit. Hardley anyone on here likes TPM much anyway, so for the few who do actually like the film (me being one of them) I thinks it's a good change.

Still won't take away the feeling I had when I first saw TPM teaser trailer fon TV. I was lucky enough to record it, so it got multiple veiws.His "fear leads to anger" speech,. but at least now he'll at least look alittle like Yoda. I mean, we had two more films to get used to him (and I thought he was pretty good in RotS) so when you wath TPM now he really does look weird!

He might make the OT Yoda Cg, I'll keep my fingers crossed. As for TPM Yoda, it looks, with an example of the footage on the ROTS DV, its almost a guarantee he will be CG in the next release.

Adam you are not listening the evidence that Lucas wont CGI the Yoda and keep hoping he will but he wont I dont feel..

1. as posted on this very thread Coleman and Lucas have stated NUMEROUS times beforehand they are not touching the Yoda in Ep 5 6

2. Lucas was so impressed with the Yoda he tried to nominate the ESB Yoda(Frank Oz) for an Oscar, (will Lucas change his mind that dramtically)

3. People on here are long time fans of the franchise and I dont think one person has said even Lucas will go that far and CGI the Yoda.

4. Some of the older fans will be pissed off with Lucas if he does that,(that are on his side now)

5. The people who did the Yoda Stuart Freeborn and Frank Oz may be pissed with Lucas if he does that, and Oz has stuck with Lucas for 5 films.

My gut feeling tells me Lucas will release the Holiday Special before he CGIs the Yoda

To be honest, I think that George would digitize Yoda (to be "consistent" with the prequels or to push the limits of technology, whatever...) in a heartbeat if he wasn't correctly worried that that change would be the straw that broke the camel's back and finally start a mainstream backlash against what he's done to his movies.

I'm not going to try to go back and find the post I want to quote, so just trust me that someone on here (or more than one person) said that they can tell when CG is used in a movie.

I can too -- and I hate it!

WARNING: I wrote the rant below and realised it rambled on and didn't really get to the point. Read at your own risk!

Special effects shots are (or should be) used only when you can't actually do what it is you want shot. Effects shots should still seem natural within the context of the film. I mean, I obviously know that there aren't spaceships and that, but if they look real, then that's great. Suspension of disbelief! I mean, when I first saw ESB and saw Yoda, he was really there on Dagobah. Once the movie was over, well, yeah, he was a puppet, but I believed he was real. Special effects have done their job when you believe it's real. In my opinion, if there's CG in a movie, I don't want to know it. I don't want to be able to tell where the CG effects are. They should be seamless. I hate hearing "The effects in that movie were awesome!" If you noticed where the CG effects (or any special effects) were, they haven't done their job. If you lose that suspension of disbelief, then it's not real for you anymore. CG never seems to fit in because it's not real enough. It pulls me out of the film, and it's that much harder to enjoy.

i wouldnt mind that actually- i mean, he looks fine in most of ESB and ROTJ, but other shots he looks absolutly terrible (the "you will be" scene is a perfect example of that)- but as long as they made him look at least a little bit older in ESB and specially ROTJ

You guys must be retarded. I watched the 2004 DVD 'ESB' last night, and Yoda still looks wicked.

The 'You will be' scene is awesome! That's acting baby, something CGI has a hard time doing.

I too watch Empire yesterday, The muppet Yoda is fantastic and is always convincing, and its performance stands the test of time. you have to take your hat off to Frank Oz and Stuart Freeborn for doing such a brilliant job.

Don't forget Mark Hamill. He does a great job of being in the moment with a puppet.

I agree, Mark Hamill takes a lot of unfair critisism these days for his acting in the O.T, especially from P.T fans.
