Now I see 005 has talked to a senior tech director from the 97SE project for firsthand info. We have certainly come a long way!

This version has 100 more images than the last one, though most of them are not new discoveries just that I gave myself the freedom to use multiple images per shot and changed how I dealt with replaced shots.

I have classified 238 shots into one of the following categories:

Recomposite - The shot was recomposited from the original elements for an SE
Modification - The shot was “enhanced” in some way for an SE
Addition - The shot was created fully for an SE
Removal - The shot was removed entirely from an SE
Trim - The shot was re-edited for an SE
Wipe - The wipe was recreated for an SE
Credits Change - A typo or grammatical error in the credits was corrected

Hope you enjoy! I noticed a lot of tiny details I’d missed previously. My new favorite “how did this pass QC” change is Obi-Wan’s Ghost. Check it out, it’s bonkers.

Question: Am I missing something? Anakin’s eyebrows being removed was a 2011 change, right? Not an 04 change?

The damaged frame pictured is from the 97SE Laserdisc, not 4K83. Of my sources, this frame is in 4K83 (clean), GOUT (clean), and 97SE (with damage), and is not present in 04SE/11SE/19SE. Additionally, in an image I’m saving for V2.1*, there is actually a repeated frame in the next shot of R2 in 04SE and 11SE, I assume to make up for removing the damaged frame of Leia. 19SE doesn’t bother to repeat a frame to keep the sync, it just removes the damage and goes on. I don’t know how this works with the audio sync, I’m not an audio guy (hence Visual Comparisons). I assume they didn’t repeat the R2 frame because they HAD notes from the HD Branch changes to redo, but not very accurate ones (which explains how they got SOME of the ships that disappear for a frame during ANH that were fixed for HD, but not all).

To be clear, the ONLY damaged version of this frame is in the 1997 Laserdisc. I’m very interested to see if 4K97_VI has it, it’s part of the reason why I’m donating directly to that scan.

It’s confusing, I spent a lot of time figuring out what happened in these two shots to get my frame-accurate sync. So much so that my wife came to check on me and saw the frame I was staring at and asked, concerned “Is that a butt on your screen?” “It’s Carrie Fisher, it’s fine”.

*V2.1 will be everything from V2.0 plus all of the changes made to earlier SE’s that were redone or undone, such the repeated R2 frame only in HD Branch and the gold LFL logo.

They cut back on the amount of CGI scurriers IIRC.

May I ask how you learned that Hayden’s head that was added to ROTJ came from alternate angles of him saying goodbye to Obi-Wan? I’m not like questioning the fact I’m just curious to know how to found out.

I believe Adywan did a study and found a shot from him making similar expressions from a different angle. We don’t know of a reshoot filmed specifically for that shot, so I just stick with that theory.

How did he get the alternate angle footage?

He found a shot in the film that looked like it could be the same shot if it was from another angle.

No, that wasn’t me. The head shot is actually taken from a costume test for ROTS. Hayden had no idea he had replaced Sebastian until the 2044 DVDs came out.

Thanks. I’m just trying to figure out what additional changes were made (rather than old changes being redone), so I don’t miss any changes in v3.0 when using the UHD BD 😃

Yeah, they’re mixed in there. The only one not on the list I can think of off the top of my head is they shittily made the speederbike that gets roped into the tree glow, but that’s in the images.

Now, of course, I have to figure out how far to go with removing the power-windowed color changes. For example, in the scene where Luke first sees Leia’s hologram, the Skyhopper outside is recolored completely to a point where it can’t even be fixed with color correction and would have to be replaced with another source.

Yeah, I can’t even begin to figure out how to log power windows or the slight movements added to the camera sometimes.
