Perhaps you could use a Janus Films-style vanity card? 😃

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

That will depend on what comes out first. But if 4K80 comes out first, then it will definitelly be a source.

I’m curious, which print scan are you currently using?

Hello all and thank your for your hard work. I just discovered these versions after complaining about the specialized versions and a friend sent me down this path. I was able to download, extract and view SW 2.7 MKV version, it is great! However, I am encountering problems with ESB 2.0 and ROJ 2.5. I have been following HanDuet’s guide. I am on Mac Monterey 12.1 and I couldn’t get FreeRapid Downloader installed, but was able to get the Mega Downloader working. On ESB and ROJ I get an error from The Unarchiver about the MKV file - “Could not extract, Error on decrunching.” I tried the files on a windows machine using 7Zip and also got an error. Where could I have gone wrong and how can I verify what mistake I’ve made. Doing the exact same steps on ESB and ROJ as I did on SW, so not sure what error I’ve made.

There’s an sfv file included with each release.
You can get a program like quicksfv (or whatever Mac equivalent) and run it against the sfv/rar files. It will tell you which files are missing/incomplete/corrupt. That way you can just try to redownload a few specific files that didn’t download properly, for whatever reason.

First, check that all the files, except for the last one, are the same size - if there’s one that’s a different size, you need to re-download that one.

Thanks - I re-downloaded using a slightly different method and this time it worked fine. I must have had a corrupted or missing download.

What worked for me, using a paid Mega account for storage and transfer bandwidth: Manually copy and paste each RAR link into a browser, and manually add each part to my Mega cloud drive, which then syncs via download to my local hard drive.

What didn’t work for me: copying all links at once and pasting in via Mega “Open Links” option in their sync tool. Not sure why this didn’t work, but it didn’t.

Greatly appreciate the efforts and the replies here, thank you!

Amazing work fellas! Can anyone help me out with a link to an alternate download location for part 14? Mega is having an issue with the file “temporarily”. Much thanks!

I’m wondering, are the galleries that show how Harmy drew on different sources to make Despecialized still available? The pictures.google.com links don’t seem to work for Empire or Star Wars.

Harmy, I remember back in the day when you were first working on the first versions of the despecialized editions and thinking this project was so cool and that it never made since that Lucas would try to stop release of the theatrical versions of the Original Trilogy. A million thank you’s for your hard work. I’m looking forward to learning more about v3.0 of TESB.

I believe this is what you’re looking for which I archived a while back, hope this is it:

I ask for the comparisons for Empire and you send me the ones for A New Hope.

Why?

I just wanted to a big “thank you” to Harmy and everyone who helped him with the Despecialized Editions, and wish him all the best with Despecialized 3.0.

You also said “star wars” you didn’t specify just ESB.

I can finally rewatch Empire as released back in 1980 (not that i would know, since i was born in 1990, but still, that’s how i watched it for the first time) even though this is the most tolerable of the SEs, simply for continuity’s sake it’s great to watch along SW and RotJ despecialized, i could never thank each and everyone that took part in this project enough.

May the force be with you all.

just curious what the sources for 3.0 are, since i heard that the emperor hologram on adywan’s 1997 recreation is better quality then some film print scans

Hey, sorry to be a bother and I’m not sure where else to ask about this, but does anybody have an mp4/MPEG file of TESB DE v2.0? I don’t need it in any other format like MKV (too big), I’ll just be happy with the mp4 version, like I said. I’ve already got the original SW and ROTJ despecialized as mp4s; Empire is the only one I need. So if anybody has said DE as an mp4, please respond or even PM me ASAP.

Handuet’s guide from the first post has 3 versions for ESB DE. They are labeled “MKV”, “AVCHD”, and “NTSC DVD5”.
I don’t remember the exact file format/extension for each of the files. But in terms of “too big”, I think from the 3 options:
MKV: 20gb
AVCHD: 8gb
DVD5: 4.2gb

Maybe you could grab the AVCHD.
It might also be “mkv”, which shouldn’t really matter. But if it does you can convert it to mp4 easily without re-encoding using ffmpeg (and probably other tools).

Something like
ffmpeg -i original-avchd-input-file.mkv -c copy new-mp4-output-avchd-file.mp4

I don’t see how mkv vs mp4 would make a difference. MKVs are just containers for other formats, which could be using the same (or probably better) compression algorithm as an mp4

Agree. Just that Benjjedi had complained about 2 things. File size and mkv. So I was providing alternatives for both 😃.

Well, it’s more that I don’t NEED a large file. Just an mp4 less than 1gb file version of TESB DE because I found said file versions of SW and ROTJ DE via archive, but “Empire” wasn’t on there for whatever reason. So I’m trying to complete that set like with the 4K77-83 trilogy.
