Idea & Info: Extra Bonus Discs & exclusive store bonus discs?

Hey,

I’m not sure if this has been brought up before, but if it has, I apologize and mods please delete my post. I tried to do a search for it, but couldn’t find anything.

Anyway, it’s not much of a project, but I was wondering if anybody tried to collect and torrent/share the exclusive bonus discs that come with certain releases from certain stores. These are like the ones that you can only get from Best Buy with the first 50 or so copies of a DVD title. I know this is right on the edge of sharing something that is commercially available, but I wasn’t sure how close to the edge it was or how risky. I mean, although they were available, they were so in very limited quantities and many people who would like them could not get a hold of them. Especially international fans. Do you think it would be fair to say these discs are “out-of-print”? Anyway, I was just bringing it up and seeing what people thought, and also what bonus discs people had to share.
Here are the ones that I own:

  • “Raiders of the Lost Ark: Classic Featurette” - Best Buy bonus disc with Indiana Jones box set
  • “Friday the 13th: Forever Jason” - Best Buy bonus disc with Friday the 13th box set
  • “Scrubs: Bonus DVD” - Best Buy bonus disc with Scrubs: Season 1

Anyway, just thought I’d throw that out there. I know there are more out there, and more to come. One example is, of course, “The Story of Star Wars” when you buy ROTS dvd at Wal-Mart. I’m sure a lot of people will want that, but not everybody will be able to get it.

Uh, if they are out of print, I don't see anything wrong with collecting them on a disc. Now, the story of star wars thing can't be until it goes out of print as well. I don't know why you would put those three on a disc together, but whatever. While were at it, why not put the r2d2 beneath the dome thingon there too. It's out of print.

Hi again,

I wasn't talking about making a compilation dvd with all of thes bonus discs. I was simply wondering if people were interested in torrenting/sharing each one. You know, for people who couldn't find a copy or whatever. Sorry if I wasn't clear. Yeah, a compilation of all of these would be really random!!

I just meant sharing copies with people who are interested in them...

The Indiana Jones Best Buy exclusive was a bonus feature on one of DigialFreakNYC's Indiana Jones releases, but I don't remember which one off the top of my head. As for the Star Wars Wal-Mart one, I'd be suprised if someone around here doesn't include that as a part of a collection or something in the future. I'd be suprised if there aren't other exlusives that haven't gotten similar treatment and been fan-released.

How about r2d2 beneath the dome? It was an exclusive to AOTC DVD.

Yeah, but to me that is a little different...this is available seperately and as far as I know, one could still purchase it.
That makes it a little more commercially available than the others, you know?
But you're right...it was included as a bonus disc with AOTC...

the video store in my local mall still had many of the "R2D2: Beneath the Dome" on clearance recently. Thats were I got my copy.

I will probably be torrenting the Wal-Mart Star Wars disc.

The Indiana Jones BB featurette is on the Great Movie Stunts disc that I just released.

Hey, that's cool digitalfreaknyc! I definitely look forward to the Star Wars bonus disc. Believe it or not, there is not a Wal-Mart near me. Is that a good thing or a bad thing...?
Well, I guess if anyone is interested in torrenting the "Scrubs" bonus disc or the "Friday the 13th" bonus disc, let me know and I can send them to you. Unfortunately, I don't think I can do it myself.
I feel like I have other store-exclusive bonus discs...I'll have to check around...

And hey, here's a question:

How does one find out which DVDs *have* these Best Buy exclusives?

I mean, I found out that every season of Xena, Hercules and Star Trek had them -- but I discovered that randomly while looking at the boxes in the store.

Is there some website out there that stays on top of all these Best Buy exclusives? Or ANY way of keeping track of them, short of rifling my local Best Buy once a month?

Actually, it was an exclusive trailer that wasn't on the Beneath the Dome disc. Maybe one of you guys could make a Beneath the Dome Superdisc...

the star trek dvd box sets also had exclusive best buy cd's, cdroms and dvd's in rather low quantities. If anyone out there can make me copies i'd be gratefull beyond words, especially for the next generation extras.

The indiana jones one was only at my best buy store with the full screen version of the film, none of the widescreen sets i saw had it, of course that does'nt mean their were'nt any they just sold out. best buy also had an exclusive Lara Croft tomb raider II dvd.
