The 2021 Theatrical El Capitan Theatre Re-Releases Re-creation Project (a Work In Progress)

This year on May 5th, 2021, Disney’s El Capitan Theatre had received release prints of:
the 1989 kickoff for the renaissance era, “The Little Mermaid”,
the 1995 CGI Animated flick, “Toy Story”,
and the 2002 masterpiece in my opinion, “Lilo & Stitch.”
Since these are happening, I’m obviously thinking about re-creating those release titles that were presented in the theatre. I am indefinitely gonna do that project.

Sources I need to find and use include:

  • The Little Mermaid 2019 Blu-Ray (for the 1st Re-released feature that plays, runs in 24 fps)
  • The Little Mermaid 2019 4K Blu-Ray (for the 1st Dolby Atmos track)
  • Toy Story Blu-ray (for the feature that plays, runs in 24 fps)
  • Toy Story 4K Blu-ray (for the 2nd Dolby Atmos track)
  • Lilo & Stitch Blu-Ray (for feature that plays, runs in 24 fps)
  • Lilo & Stitch 4K Blu-Ray (needs to exist in order for a Dolby Atmos track to be used)
  • Disney Infinity 3.0? (for Hall of Heroes song for curtain intro)
  • Disney+ Advertisement
  • Cruella (Preview #1)
  • Jungle Cruise (Preview #2)
  • Marvel Studios Celebrates the Movies (Preview #3)

Note that there may be more re-releases in the future, and if there are: i’m doing them if there are footage of the previews. Also note that as there are also re-releases of Star Wars Episodes 4, 5, and 6, Captain America Civil War, and Raya and the Last Dragon, i’m not doing private screening releases.

If anyone has sources for me to use, please send it to me via private topic. This recreation will hopefully be done by the one year anniversary of The Little Mermaid print (May 5th, 2022) , or by the one year anniversary of another release re-creation i’m doing https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Toy-Story-2020-Theatrical-5-Fan-Favorites-Re-Release-Recreation-a-Work-In-Progress/id/85121 (November 5th, 2021), if not earlier than those two dates. Reply below if you have any questions, thoughts, sources, or anything else!

If these two re-creation projects go well, I could make more projects in the future! So go out there and get resources!

I recently got back from the screening. It was pretty fun, and we still need to get to work.

I have updated the sources since now I definitely know what previews would show up before the features.

It opened with the famous curtain show that they’d always put before the previews (this one’s the updated version with “Hall of Heroes” playing, rather than “The Boy who could Fly” one that was previously used.)

Then there was a Disney+ advertisement, predictable enough due to how it was mentioned almost everywhere you can go. (they even gave me Disney+ themed Mickey ears when I walked out of the building, and I’ll be keeping that hat)

Then the Cruella Trailer, which is first due to it being the first Disney film to release in the trailer reel.

Then interestingly, an edit of an already existing Jungle Cruise Trailer. This version hasn’t released online yet, but it has been uploaded using it’s previous release date.

Then after that, the Marvel trailer. It’s not the Black Widow one however, but the “Celebrating The Movies” one that came out on YouTube not long ago. Surprising, that they would use this rather than the Black Widow trailer.

After all of that, the format changed into the 1:85:1 format for Toy Story, and bam! The film played in it’s entirety, with Dolby Atmos audio. Since this was the same version used for another re-release that I have seen in November 2020, vocals and SFX have been remixed for the Dolby Atmos Track. When remixing the 5.1 for the 10.1 Dolby Track, they had to recreate audio from the feature in order to properly mix it. This caused some out of sync vocals and music. I’ve recorded the entire theatre audio (with all of the trailers before it), for evidence that the sound and vocals were moved and that maybe the Dolby Atmos track on the Blu-Ray could be different.

After the feature, the curtains began to close silently 3 seconds before the Pixar logo ended. Really fun experience, and if you wanna go experience Disney’s fancy theater, go buy a ticket! They got Cruella coming up on the opening night of May 27th.

I’ll see you guys later for updates on the projects!
