Hi, first of all i’m new one here, so i’m not 100% sure how this discussion thing works. I have got my hands on Harmy’s despecialized trilogy, but i don’t know what versions i have, and the guy who gave them to me doesn’t know either, so i have been looking in internet what are the major differences between them, but i have not founded anything helpful, so can someone tell me what are differences between versions 2.0, 2.5, 2.7 and everything between them, so that i could finally know what versions i possess

The 4K projects have caused some confusion in this regard – i.e. if you want one sort of color correction, you go with 1.4, but if you want another sort of color correction, go with 1.6, and so on. All of the 4Kxx “versions” are at least potentially active branches.

Despecialized uses version numbers in the more traditional sense. You pretty much never want the older ones, because the only active branch is the latest one. If you’re just interested in a changelog, you might have to dig through the discussion threads. Otherwise, it’s always “Problems in the previous versions were found and fixed”.

Harmy’s even joked before that his latest revisions are “the films as he originally intended to make them, and he has no interest in making older versions available”, ironically echoing a certain someone.

You can use the Ultimate Introductory Guide in the first post of the discussion threads to get the current ones.

You want the lastest… Star Wars, v2.7; Empire, v2.0; Jedi, v2.5.

That’s the final word on THOSE editions. He’s now working on a newer restoration using Disney’s 4K releases as his background. It will be Harmy’s despecialized 3.0 series. Also, DEFINITELY track down Team Negative 1’s 4K77 and 4K83, SW and ROTJ taken from actual 35 mm prints. They are currently working on 4K80 for Empire…

You can also check the end credits to see what version you have. Harmy puts the version number at the very end of the credits or he did on the newer versions anyway. Older versions might be missing that.

“You know, when you think about it, the Ewoks probably just crap over the sides of their tree-huts.”
