today is April 22nd 2021.
exactly 20 years since shrek met its debut.
and no 35mm.
we failed the mission all thanks to the global pandemic.
now what do we have to do?

OK full disclosure: I’m no authority on film preservation or anything and I’ve only been here for a few months. With that said, what I DO know about scanning film is that it’s expensive, it takes time, and it’s not easy. Just look at 4K80 - TN1 started working on it back in late 2018 and it’s still only 75% finished, but it WILL be released eventually, hopefully by the end of this year.

As for Shrek, yes, it would have been AWESOME if this project was released in time for the 20th anniversary, but that wasn’t the objective. The objective is to preserve this print as best as possible, no matter how long it takes. In the words of Shigeru Miyamoto: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”
